Position Description
The role of Offshore Wind Foundation Engineer will be to provide technical input and expertise on structures relating to offshore wind (both fixed bottom and floating, both WTGs and offshore substations) during the full lifecycle of development and operations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Defining and implementing engineering strategies and plans relating to offshore foundations including tendering (preparation, evaluation and selection of preferred consultants), negotiating and managing high value design contracts whilst managing multiple consultants and associated interfaces.
2. Undertake critical technical reviews of offshore structural design work.
3. Support certification processes with independent verification bodies to reduce design risk and enhance asset value.
4. Develop and define internal procedures, engineering standards and technical acceptance criteria for offshore foundations (fixed and floating).
5. Ensure lessons learnt from ESB’s portfolio and the wider industry are captured and incorporated into projects.
6. Provision of technical support relating to offshore wind structures for certification, fabrication, transport & installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
7. Manage and provide design guidance and internal technical verification of WTG and offshore substation platform foundations.
8. Inform DevEx, CapEx and OpEx assumptions and estimates relating to offshore structures throughout the various stages of project development.
9. Provision of technical support for offshore survey works including geophysical surveys and geotechnical investigations for offshore wind structures.
10. Assist with the preparation of construction contracts (e.g. employer’s requirements and technical specifications) and contribute to project scheduling / budgeting and risk management.
11. Work closely with internal stakeholders, project partners, external design consultants and contractors to produce optimal solutions suiting project objectives.
12. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of latest technological solutions and developments in field of expertise.
13. Lead the identification of topics for research such as software, technologies, materials, fabrication methodologies to be investigated in field of expertise.
14. Work as part of multi-disciplinary teams in developing technical aspects of offshore wind projects (fixed and floating) in anticipation of key project milestones such as seabed leasing events, planning applications, route to market auctions, FID and COD.
15. Represent ESB at conferences, industry working groups, development consortiums, supply chain meetings, etc. as required.
16. Provision of technical and strategic advice to Lead Engineer / Project Manager(s) on projects.
17. Share knowledge with colleagues and support development of junior staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
1. Possess a Civil / Structural / Geotechnical Engineering degree (Level 8) or equivalent.
2. At least 4 years of experience in offshore industry, with a minimum of 7 years post graduate experience.
3. Experience in design and / or design management of offshore foundations (monopiles and jackets).
4. Knowledge and experience of planning, managing and executing offshore foundation design contracts, design management, program management, cost and risk control.
5. An understanding of relevant design codes and standards.
6. Knowledge of integrated loads analysis, primary and secondary steel designs, corrosion protection systems, structural materials, welding, fatigue, bolt design, FE analysis, environmental loading, transport and installation, operation and maintenance.
7. Strong capability in assessing, communicating and managing project critical technical risks.
8. A strong understanding of the implications of engineering project decisions (e.g. impacts on commercial, programme, health & safety, environmental, planning, etc.).
9. A strong ability to identify project work requirements and to initiate necessary work with limited oversight.
10. The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
11. Excellent team player.
12. Fluent spoken and written English.
13. Master’s degree (Level 9), ideally relating to Offshore Engineering.
14. 8+ years of experience in offshore industry.
15. Chartered Engineer status.
16. Experience in design and / or design management of floating offshore foundations (semi-submersibles, barges, moorings, anchors, etc.).
17. Experience with offshore structural inspections.
Qualifications
* Level 8 Engineering Degree or equivalent qualification.
Location
This role is based in One Dublin Airport Central, Co. Dublin or Cork offices but travel to project locations as required, is a key requirement of the role. Flexibility to travel nationally and internationally in support of delivery of work programmes may be a feature of the role.
