Applications are invited for the Specified Purpose position of Basic Grade Medical Scientist in St. Vincent's Private Hospital.
Essential Criteria
* Have a recognised Department of Health and Children Qualification for a Medical Scientist approved by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU or equivalent.
* Have eligibility and availability to work in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Must be the holder of an up to date visa/work permit where applicable & availability to take up the post immediately following on-boarding checks (c. 4 weeks from appointment).
* Be currently CORU registered as a Medical Scientist.
* Have post qualification experience as a Medical Scientist in Blood Sciences.
* Have extensive knowledge of at least one of Sysmex XN Haematology Analyser or Cobas 6000/8000 Biochemistry Analyser.
* Have an understanding of the SVPH mission and vision, and show ability to incorporate these values into professional practice.
* Have a record of continuous professional development in compliance with local licensing requirements.
* Have an ability to work under pressure, be highly efficient and to meet deadlines.
* Have an ability to be flexible to the service requirements.
Desirable
* Experience with Roche Cobas Biochemistry systems, Sysmex Haematology systems APEX LIMS.
* Experience in a multi-disciplinary laboratory.
* Remain up to date on evolving techniques in Medical Science.
Role Summary
In brief summary, the Post Holder will:
* Be responsible for the provision of analytical results with exceptional attention to quality, speed/efficiency and economy in our busy Blood Sciences Laboratory.
* Monitor and ensure the quality of analyses through active assessment of internal quality control and external quality assessment.
* Participate in the process of evaluation of new methods, techniques and equipment.
* Be competent in aspects of Information Technology such as MS Word, Excel, and ideally APEX, Q-Pulse and other IT systems as appropriate.
* Participate in the hospital laboratory ISO 15189 quality management system and undertake any required key functions within the ISO 15189 quality management system.
* Participate in the Hospitals JCI Accreditation programme.
* Be actively involved in change management processes and adjust to the evolving requirements of the Laboratory service.
* Co-operate and liaise with the staff of St Vincent's Private Hospital and St Vincent's University Hospital Pathology Department as per the requirements of the Service.
* Participate in the provision and governance of Point of Care services in St Vincent's Private Hospital.
* Participate in ensuring that effective safety procedures are in place to comply not only with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act but also within the spirit of the Hospital's mission, vision and values and that they are known and followed.
