Summary
Provide a support role in materials development projects in the Materials Development Group in the Innovation Centre. The role involves working with a cross functional team on the implementation of leading edge technologies and innovative processes to build excellence in materials development. This role is primarily based in a laboratory environment analysing and characterising materials.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Perform laboratory activities: analysis and characterisation of materials, e.g. metals, coatings, ceramics.
2. Super user on laboratory equipment
3. Full responsibility for managing laboratory safety, including chemical handling.
4. Ensure that all equipment is maintained and that all consumables are available as required
5. Responsibility for maintaining 5S standards in the Materials laboratory.
6. Participate in Risk Assessments and PFMEAs as required.
7. Actively support all Materials Development team and Innovation Centre goals and objectives.
8. Support root cause analysis and scrap reduction activities related to material processes.
9. Provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities.
10. Ensure effective communications as required.
11. Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are fulfilled.
12. Ensure that all GMP requirements are met when conducting experiments/trials.
13. Continuous Improvement Focus.
Experience Required
1. Some experience within a medical device company or similar industry.
2. Laboratory experience or similar.
Education
1. Education Requirements: BSc in Materials Science or Engineering.
Other Requirements
1. Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering.
2. Materials characterisation experience – metallography, microscopy, advanced analytical techniques.
3. Chemical Handling training.
4. Continuous Improvement Focus.
