About the Role
We are looking for a Design Engineer with a keen interest in sustainable transport to support the delivery of active travel and public transport projects. This role is ideal for an early-career engineer with a few years of industry experience who is looking to grow technical skills and contribute to the development of safer, greener transport infrastructure. You will work closely with senior team members to produce high-quality designs and technical reports.
Key Responsibilities
1. Assist in the design of walking, cycling, and public transport infrastructure projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager.
2. Prepare drawings, design calculations, and technical reports to support planning and construction stages.
3. Support the development of feasibility studies, options assessments, and preliminary/detailed design packages.
4. Apply relevant design standards such as DMURS and the Cycle Design Manual to all work.
5. Contribute to multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders.
6. Assist in the preparation of documentation for funding applications, statutory approvals, and tender submissions.
7. Attend site visits, surveys, and team meetings as required.
What do we need from you
1. Degree in Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, or a related discipline.
2. 2+ years of relevant experience in transport or civil infrastructure design.
3. Interest in sustainable transportation, active travel, and public realm design.
4. Familiarity with DMURS, Cycle Design Manual, or similar standards (training will be provided as needed).
5. Proficiency in design and drafting software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar.
6. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow direction in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
7. Good communication and report-writing skills.
Desirable
1. Experience working on local authority or public sector transportation projects.
2. Experience preparing detailed design drawings or technical works requirements.
3. Working knowledge of GIS or transport modelling tools is a bonus.
