Offer Description
Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a Postdoctoral Researcher with the School of Engineering at University of Galway, Ireland.
This position is supported through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland funded ASHORE project and is available from April 2025 for a duration of 12 months. The goal of the ASHORE project is to assess long range low frequency noise propagation over water, with particular focus on noise from offshore wind turbines.
The potential behind offshore wind energy in Ireland is massive, but how the acoustic impact of such developments is assessed requires significant attention. In the case of wind turbines, we now understand a great deal about the generation of noise at source, but the manner in which noise propagates from the source, particularly over water, requires particular attention. There are no accepted methodologies to assess the long-range, low frequency noise propagation over sea water. The project will develop a validated computational model to assess noise propagation over water, specifically for the case of offshore wind turbines around Ireland’s coast. This model will be compared to standard prediction methods, and the study will yield Irish specific correction factors, to ensure future developments in Irish waters are assessed to the highest standard, with minimal acoustic impacts.
Salary: Postdoctoral Researcher / Research associate salary scale €44,346 - €56,764 per annum (subject to the project’s funding limitations), and pro rata for shorter and/or part-time contracts.
The default position for all new public sector appointments is the 1st point of the salary scale. This may be reviewed, and consideration afforded to appointment at a higher point on the payscale (subject to the project’s funding limitations), where evidence of prior years’ equivalent experience is accepted in determining placement on the scale above point 1, subject to the maximum of the scale.
Closing date for receipt of applications: 17:00 (Irish Time) on 9th April 2025. It will not be possible to consider applications received after the closing date.
