Ordinary Bachelor of Science Degree – Laboratory Analyst (3-year Level 7)
Are you looking to kick start a career in science and get an education while getting paid? In partnership with IBEC and Tallaght Technology University Dublin (Institute of Technology Tallaght), Pfizer Grange Castle is seeking candidates for a Laboratory Apprenticeship Programme. This is a 3-year program combining part-time learning and work placement.
Pfizer is a world-leading pharmaceutical company, well placed to facilitate, mentor, and nurture new aspiring talent, offering you the opportunity to work at our approved drug manufacturing site in Grange Castle. During term time, you would work 3 days per week in our high-tech Laboratory, learning on-the-job, while spending 2 contact days per week with our education partner, Technology University Dublin (Institute of Technology Tallaght).
The laboratory facility at Grange Castle is a fully integrated Biotechnology operation incorporating a wide range of test disciplines. The QC laboratories focus on the testing and release of life-changing medicines through the application of its expert team, innovative practices, and novel technologies. You will be joining the Quality team and reporting to the QC Laboratory Supervisor / Shift Lead and will be responsible for providing analytical support to the QC Laboratories.
The programme is designed for those who wish to develop a career in the laboratory environment of the Biopharmaceutical, Pharmaceutical, Chemical Manufacturing, Food and Drink, Medical Devices and Diagnostics, and Analytical Testing Laboratory sectors. Employment in these sectors is forecasted to grow significantly over the next 3-5 years, making this an excellent time to get on-board.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
For entry into year 1 of the Level 7 Programme, applicants must have the following:
* Pass (Grade O6 or better) in five leaving certificate subjects, two of which must be maths and a science subject
* 250 CAO points, or
* Relevant FETAC Level 5 or Level 6 Graduate
* Current employee with relevant experience and qualifications
* Career changers
* You will be deemed overqualified for the programme if you hold a degree or higher award in a science-based subject achieved in the last five years.
* Before enrolment on the apprenticeship programme, the apprentice must have:
* A Company Interview and Assessment
* SOLAS apprentice approval (only necessary if you are offered a role)
Course Description
The industry-led Laboratory Apprenticeships were developed by BioPharmaChem Ireland, an IBEC business sector, along with a strong industry consortium and the Tallaght Technology University Dublin (Institute of Technology Tallaght) as the lead provider and is suitable for a diverse laboratory environment, e.g., Biopharmaceutical, Pharmaceutical, Chemical Manufacturing, Food and Drink, Medical Devices and Diagnostics, and Analytical Testing Laboratory sectors.
The laboratory apprenticeships are an “earn while you learn” degree programme that combines paid on-the-job training with academic study. The three-year programme is suitable for school leavers, career changers, mature students, those returning to work, and those looking to retrain/upskill.
The laboratory apprenticeship programme has been developed to support a learning structure of three days in industry and two days in academia. This structure facilitates the continuous learning and hands-on work experience undertaken by the apprentice who, with the support of leading professionals and regional Technology Universities, will learn the behaviours and skills.
The Apprentice will be responsible for carrying out basic laboratory duties that may include sample collection, equipment calibration, solution preparation, stock control, and glassware maintenance while conducting both basic and advanced analytical testing methods (e.g., chromatography, water, and microbiological testing) on raw materials, in-process, or finished product. In addition, the Apprentice will gain more working exposure to various Quality Systems. All work to be conducted and recorded in accordance with good laboratory practice.
