Key Functions & Results Areas (Key Activities):
1. Maintain a weekly log of tender enquiries and a pipeline of potential projects that fit with the company’s requirements.
2. Measurement of drawings and preparation of BOQ’s.
3. Negotiate prices with suppliers and subcontractors to ensure quotations are competitive.
4. Preparation of rate build up for all elements of work to required margins.
5. Ensure quotations are returned within the tender period.
6. Carry out value engineering exercises and make cost saving proposals to Main Contractor/ Client.
7. Maintain a close working relationship with the Commercial Manager.
8. Maintain close communication with potential clients, following up on quotations and the status of each project quoted.
9. In conjunction with the Commercial Manager negotiate with clients to ensure projects are secured to required margins.
10. Upon award of projects, prepare budget based on costs at tender stage.
11. Handover project to other departments – operations, design, and QS. Identifying and potential risk and opportunity that is available.
12. In conjunction with the Commercial Director, assist in developing relationships with new clients and ultimately securing new projects.
13. Represent the commercial department during the pre-construction phase of projects; assisting with the handover from estimating to QS team, ensuring budgets are in place, ensuring commercially favourable rates are agreed with all suppliers and plant hire companies, source alternative suppliers where appropriate and assist the operations team in securing sub contract labour.
14. Set an example of the Company’s professional image at all levels of contact and ensure similar conduct from subcontractors and supervisors.
15. Any other reasonable duties as required by the directors, management or consultants appointed by the directors.
16. This job may involve some travel and unsocial hours.
17. Occasionally you will need to assist the estimating team in preparing quotations – such assistance will involve undertaking take offs, building up rates, requesting supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Person Specification:
1. A construction related college degree or equivalent; construction science or engineering degree preferred.
2. At least 5 years of successfully involvement in estimating envelope contracts.
3. Must be able to read and interpret drawing specifications for roofing projects.
4. Knowledge in roofing and cladding construction methods and practices.
5. Effective communication, supervision, and managerial skills.
6. Must have a high level of computer skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Microsoft Project is a plus.
7. Excellent IT skills.
8. Excellent organisational skills.
9. Budget management experience and demonstrable attention to detail.
10. Strong team player.
11. Current driver’s licence.
