The Opportunity
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects, including commercial, industrial, healthcare, data centres, and educational sectors. As a Senior Building Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, integrating, and optimizing control systems to enhance building performance and contribute to our innovation building automation initiatives.
You will also have the opportunity to drive innovation in building automation, IoT integration, and energy-efficient control strategies, shaping the future of intelligent building systems at Arup.
As a Senior Building Controls Engineer at Arup, you will:
1. Design and manage building control systems to optimize building performance, energy efficiency, and user comfort.
2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Electrical, ICT, Smart Buildings, etc.) to ensure seamless integration of controls into building design.
3. Support the team lead in project execution, contributing technical expertise while ensuring successful project delivery.
4. Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
5. Review and validate design work completed by team members, ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices.
6. Prepare conceptual design studies, reports, and contract documentation for building controls projects.
7. Conduct site inspections and witness control system commissioning, ensuring optimal system performance and functionality.
Does this role inspire you?
We are looking for someone who is passionate about smart building automation and energy-efficient control systems. These are the essential skills and qualifications for the position:
1. Degree in Controls, Building Services, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
2. Minimum of 8 years of post-qualification experience in building control systems, including design expertise, system integration, and commissioning.
3. Solid understanding of HVAC controls theory, including control sequences, system optimization, and energy management strategies.
4. Experience with networking protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and other communication standards used in building automation systems.
5. Hands-on experience with both PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) and DDC (Direct Digital Control) systems.
6. Experience with Data Centre BMS (Building Management Systems) and EPMS (Electrical Power Monitoring Systems), including system architecture, integration, and critical alarm management.
We Also Value:
1. Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
2. Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices.
3. Proficiency in design software relevant to building control systems.
