Job Summary
This role involves providing front-line library and information support to members of the client, The Bar of Northern Ireland. Duties include receiving and processing legal research enquiries, maintaining an up-to-date legal information service, and promoting all aspects of the LIS to the membership.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide first-class LIS support to Members in accordance with the instructions of the Assistant Librarian, meeting specific and specialist information needs.
2. Receive and process legal research enquiries efficiently and accurately from receipt to end billing, involving searching/consulting materials and databases.
3. Process Authority Gathering requests and Optimised Brief & Bundle Service (OBBS) in accordance with LIS procedures and current Practice Directions.
4. Support LIS office activities, including ordering and processing titles, administering Members Subscription Service, and indexing legal materials.
5. Promote all aspects of the LIS to the membership, ensuring they are kept informed of services available and their benefits.
6. Keep abreast of topical legal information and developments, delivering an informed response to members' enquiries.
7. Retrieve and re-shelve Library materials, tidy shelves, and obtain external materials as required, complying with copyright restrictions.
8. Undertake looseleaf updates accurately and in a timely fashion, providing access to up-to-date information.
9. Repair Library books, organise binding/rebinding, and provide a reception service to solicitors/clients and visitors.
Essential Criteria
* Minimum 2 A-Levels at grade C or above (or equivalent).
* English and Math GCSE or equivalent.
* Working knowledge of technology, including online databases, internet research, and MS Office applications.
* General understanding of legal process and primary & secondary legal materials.
* 1 year's experience in working with knowledge, information, and research in law libraries or paralegal roles.
Desirable Criteria
* Good working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, especially in creating and manipulating electronic pdf documentation.
* Experience of Northern Ireland specific law-making processes and materials.
