Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join the RTForm project, which focuses on development of Robot Toolkits for deformable component manufacturing. The project aims to implement a multi-platform and multi-user Augmented Reality (AR) experience to enhance operator performance and precision during complex assembly processes involving deformable materials. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and integration of AR-based assistance tools, including head-mounted displays, projection-based systems, and interactive screens. These tools will deliver step-by-step procedural guidance, real-time virtual component visualisation, and immersive training environments, tailored to the challenges of manipulating soft or variable-geometry components. A core responsibility of this role is to bridge robotic automation and human-centred AR interfaces, enabling seamless collaboration between human operators and robotic systems. This includes the integration of vision systems and AI-enabled algorithms for real-time tracking, deformation estimation, quality assurance, and adaptive process optimization. The candidate will also contribute to the development of intelligent feedback mechanisms that enhance decision-making in dynamic manufacturing settings, with a focus on process robustness, error reduction, and production scalability for deformable component assembly. PD1 Salary: €45,847 - €48,412 Per Annum Appointment on the above range will be dependent on qualifications and experience Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on the 22nd of April 2025. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications. UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned. The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead. To be considered for this role you will be redirected to and must complete the application process on our careers page. To start the process click the Apply button below to Login/Register.
