About the Irish College of GPs
The Irish College of GPs is the professional body for general practice in Ireland. The College was founded in 1984 and is the Postgraduate Training Body (PGTB) for general practice accredited by the Irish Medical Council. Our primary aim is to serve the patient and the general practitioner by encouraging and maintaining the highest standards of general practice. We are responsible for postgraduate education, training, and standards in general practice and advises Government and the health services in relation to General Practice.
The College is a member of the World Organisation of National Colleges and Academies and Academic Associations of General Practice (WONCA). As a membership organisation, we are responsible for providing continuing medical education for GPs numbering over 4,000.
In May 2024 the College updated its name and brand identity from ICGP to Irish College of GPs and launched a new website. These changes reflect a new direction and tone for the representative organisation for GPs in Ireland.
Job Purpose
This significant Project Manager post will lead a large-scale transformation of the College web systems (including all underlying custom developed integrations), enhancing both backend and frontend functionalities to drive efficiency, scalability and user engagement.
The role requires an experienced strategic thinker with strong project management, communication, and technical skills who can manage the end-to-end transformation process, coordinating cross-functional teams to deliver a robust, scalable web infrastructure.
Key Result Areas
1. Undertake a full review of the current Irish College of GPs' web systems and integrations.
2. Consult with all stakeholders, both internal and external, to gather and document business requirements to achieve project goals with business objectives.
3. Develop a project plan, outlining objectives, milestones, timelines, resources and budget required for the transformation.
4. Identify, articulate, and manage project requirements, tasks, risks, and issues as well as drive project risks and issues through to resolution using best practice project management methodology.
5. Ensure project timelines are accurate, and expectations are communicated, and work with the stakeholders to understand problems, dependencies and project milestones.
6. Ensure that Common Gateway Interface (CGI) and code checks are carried out to optimise website performance on desktop and mobile devices.
7. Manage the project budget including analysing, monitoring, and reporting on project financial metrics and risk management.
8. Serve as a high-level technical resource for the Project Team and be directly responsible for the engagement with providers on all technological matters. Troubleshoot and test prototypes, as well as monitor the live deployment.
9. Lead change management initiatives to ensure smooth adoption of the new systems across the organisation.
Person Specification
Qualifications & experience
* A relevant Level 9 qualification (or equivalent) in a web, IT or information management discipline.
* A recognised project management qualification relevant to the digital sector, such as certified Scrum Master, Agile project manager or PRINCE2 practitioner.
* Substantial experience in project managing enterprise-level web systems and digital transformation projects.
* Proven experience in the management of third-party contractors.
* Proven knowledge of data migration, system integration and cloud services.
* Advanced understanding of web servers, app servers, API development, caching, database development, tool development with a specific emphasis on web development and presentation layer technologies.
* Strong experience and understanding of web applications- frontend and backend development.
* Proven experience of working with web systems and large, complex websites.
* Proven experience with stakeholders both internal and external and driving IT related business projects from concept to reality.
