Contract: Permanent
Hours: Full Time (39 hours per week)
Salary range: HSE Consolidated pay-scale 1st Oct 2024
Reporting to: Physiotherapist Manager
PURPOSE OF POST
* To work under the supervision and direction of a CORU registered Physiotherapist to provide a high quality and efficient physiotherapy service for service users.
* To undertake general departmental duties such as cleaning, stock management, collation of statistical information, and ordering equipment.
* To undertake administrative and household tasks as necessary to maintain the smooth running of the department.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Physiotherapist Assistant will:
* Provide assistance to Physiotherapists working in the designated clinical area to manage the day-to-day provision of physiotherapy services. This role includes supervised or directed service user contact as well as assisting in the day-to-day organisation and running of the Physiotherapy service.
* Have knowledge of the role of the Physiotherapy Assistant and understand the responsibilities and accountability of that role within the team.
* Recognise the importance of a good working relationship with frequent communication between the Assistant and the supervising physiotherapist(s).
* Communicate effectively and appropriately with a range of different service users and providers.
* Observe confidentiality when handling the clients/organisation’s information.
* Document his/her intervention with the client as outlined by local policy.
* Maintain order, cleanliness and tidiness of treatment areas and equipment in accordance with local departmental guidelines.
* Clean and maintain gym and therapy equipment on a regular basis.
* Perform such other duties appropriate to the role as may be assigned by the Physiotherapist Manager.
* Engage in support/professional supervision with assigned Physiotherapist/ Physiotherapy Manager and participate in Performance Achievement.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Candidates, on the last date for receipt of applications, must:
* Possess a Certificate in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support having achieved the associated Level 5 minor awards in both Physiotherapy Assistant Theory and Physiotherapy Assistant Practice at Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) maintained by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI).
Or
* Possess a relevant healthcare qualification at not less than QQI Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) and give an undertaking to successfully complete an approved programme leading to QQI Level 5 minor awards in both Physiotherapy Assistant Theory and Physiotherapy Assistant Practice within 1 year of taking up duty.
Or
* Be currently employed as a Physiotherapy Assistant, Healthcare Assistant or in a comparable role for at least 1 year and give an undertaking to acquire an appropriate healthcare qualification at not less than QQI Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major award, having achieved the associated Level 5 minor awards in both Physiotherapy Assistant Theory and Physiotherapy Assistant Practice within 1 year of taking up duty.
Or
* Have completed the relevant QQI Level 5 minor awards in both Physiotherapy Assistant Theory and Physiotherapy Assistant Practice and give a commitment to successfully complete a QQI Level 5 major award within 1 year of taking up duty.
Or
* Possess an equivalent qualification from another jurisdiction.
And
* Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
* Have knowledge of the role of Physiotherapy.
* Have excellent communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Have excellent organisational/administrative skills.
* Experience working as a Physiotherapy Assistant.
* Experience working in a rehabilitation healthcare setting.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
