Job Summary
The Unit Secretary plays a vital role in providing exceptional customer service and administrative support to the nursing unit. This position requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Main Responsibilities:
* Customer Service: Provide excellent phone etiquette and respond promptly to call lights, facilitating communication between the nursing unit and callers.
* Clerical Duties: Process new admissions, including creating patient charts, MyChart enrollment, and other duties defined by the unit.
* Scheduling: Schedule post-discharge appointments with patients according to the established business unit process.
* Downtime Activities: During downtime, process non-medication orders, maintain paper forms, and perform monthly maintenance of BCA, printer, and unit reports.
* Maintenance and Repair: Notify resources for maintenance, track requests and statuses for unit clinical, telecommunication, and computer equipment.
* Consultative Services: Contact consultative services per business unit process.
* Patient Disposition: Process patient information after discharge, including disposition in the electronic health record (EHR) and breakdown of patient chart.
* Interpreter Services: Assist with coordination of interpreter services after collaboration with nursing staff.
* Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform cleaning of unit clinical, telecommunication, and computer equipment during each shift, rebooting computer equipment as needed.
* Emergency Response: Participate in emergency response activities.
* Purposeful Rounding: Perform purposeful rounding according to unit standards.
Requirements:
* Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
* Experience: One year in a healthcare setting such as a medical office, hospital, or laboratory required. Previous experience as a unit secretary preferred.
