DescriptionAirfield Operatives work in the Airside Management Department. The role reports directly to the Airfield Facilities Manager is a shift role with a requirement to work, Days/Nights/Weekdays/Weekends (12hr shift patterns).
Airfield Operatives carry out both planned and reactive maintenance on a diverse range of airfield & landside infrastructural assets including; runways, taxiways, aprons pavement, airfield paint markings, footpaths, roads, grasslands, drainage infrastructure, security fence, boundary gates at Ireland’s busiest airport to ensure safe and efficient operations at all times.
In addition to the above, the Airfield Operative Team provides support during the winter season and is an integral part of the Dublin Airport Winter Operations team responsible for ensuring the safe and timely clearance of contamination to pavements during winter operations.
The team is also the Dublin Airport aircraft recovery response team and has aided in the recovery of a number of disabled aircraft at Dublin Airport over the last 10 year as well as at both Cork and Shannon Airports.
All operatives are FAS safe pass workers and have significantly high level of accredited training in many areas such as Airfield driving (including airfield escorting), ATC Telephony, Manual handling, Operating of Snow and Ice Machinery, Operating Heavy Goods Vehicles, Operating Grass cutting equipment, Use of abrasive wheels, Use of power tools, Traffic Management Training, Airfield pavement maintenance rig training, Hot works training, Chemical handling, Underground service detection, Telescopic driving and more.
This role is a physical role requiring persons to be fit to carry out physical work activities in a highly regulated and safety critical environment. Responsibilities
Maintaining critical infrastructure in a dynamic live operational environment ensuring that works are carried out safely and efficiently. Working in a highly regulated environment requiring adherence to stringent working, operational and health and safety practices and procedures
Conducting specialist semi-skilled maintenance and repairs of asphalt and concrete pavements on the airport’s runways, taxiways, aprons and airside roads.
Operating heavy equipment on the airfield to maintain grasslands and ensure visibility of airfield signs and lights, in compliance with wildlife management plans and health, safety, EASA regulation and security policies.
Maintaining all airfield grasslands and hedgerows and carrying out all chemical spraying and trimming to ensure its continuous healthy condition.
Providing snow and ice control through the application of specialised anti-icing/de-icing chemicals and operating heavy snow removal equipment during winter operations (20+ weeks of the year).
Maintaining storm water drainage systems at Dublin Airport through cleaning, maintenance and assisting specialized contractors.
Maintaining perimeter/boundary fences, gates and road safety equipment (barriers and other traffic control devices).
Assisting with equipment maintenance, special events and projects at Dublin Airport.
Provide support and assistance in line with Dublin Airports Aircraft recovery plan for the safe recovery of disabled aircraft at Dublin Airport (Cork and Shannon) on a 24/7 and 365 days a year basis.
Assist and carry out airfield paint marking maintenance including refreshing and removal.
Provide escort driving to external contractors when required throughout the Airfield.
Provide assistance as required to support the Heavy Fleet team in preparing equipment and machinery for airfield maintenance and winter operations
Assisting the airfield management team with ad hoc duties within the scope of the team’s abilities as and when required.
As required carrying out ad hoc pavement repairs on the landside at Dublin Airport.
Promote a safety culture to ensure safe working practices at all times while carrying out role and duties and ensuring the full adoption of all Health and safety documentation and procedures.
Qualifications
FAS Safe Pass Accreditation
Experience in operating plant and machinery
Full clean C1 Licence Driver holder
Experience of working in a highly regulated safety critical environment.
Experience or similar experience in the provision of winter maintenance skills and operating heavy equipment in a live operational environment.
Full clean C1 Licence Driver holder
Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with ATC in a safety critical operational environment
Experience in operating plant and machinery
Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, power tools and hand tools – relevant construction site experience
