Pay Philosophy
The typical starting salary range ($94,600-$118,000) for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
Description

As a Lead Accountant, you will conduct and oversee complex assignments involving the reporting of various reinsurance results (by segment, by business unit, by program type, among others). You will develop financial statements, as well as ad-hoc reports, and you will ensure the reinsurance results produced and reported provide financial transparency and analytical insight to stakeholders and both internal and external customers.
Responsibilities:
* Prepare complex financial reports utilizing a broad knowledge of accounting policies and procedures.
* Research and resolve complex reconciling issues and discrepancies.
* Research complex accounting treatment and policies by utilizing available technology and other resources.
* Oversee different functions of the monthly, quarterly, and annual book close cycles, monitoring timely completion and escalating issues for resolution.
* Accurately and efficiently perform reporting & accounting activities of increasing complexity.
* Provide financial transparency and support to internal and external groups.
* Suggest process improvement initiatives and provide solutions to enhance current processes.
* Prepare analysis and be prepared to provide explanations for unusual and/or inconsistent trends.
* Create increasingly complex financial statement and footnote schedules/disclosures, audit support schedules and other reports in a timely manner. Perform detailed reviews of other team members' schedules.
* Establish, document, and perform internal control procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
* Create standard work for more complex processes to improve accuracy and timeliness.
* Innovate and lead team projects collaboratively to achieve the successful completion of deliverables.
* Understand and research how data flows through the financial systems and into the reporting and FP&A functions in order to identify issues and take action to address them.
* Lead or actively participate in increasingly complex department projects and continuous improvement activities.
* Foster the development of teammates by sharing expertise and experience through training or reviewing their work.
* Review financial reports for accuracy and ensure timely preparation.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree (Accounting or Finance) required. CPA or advanced degree in Accounting preferred.
* Minimum of 5 years of accounting or finance experience.
* Must demonstrate attention to detail in a fast-paced work environment and the ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions to achieve results.
* Communicates well with own team and across organizational boundaries to create alignment and ensure the successful completion of shared goals.
* Comfortable leading meetings and able to communicate issues and trends to senior management and other groups at the appropriate level of detail.
* Possesses a solid understanding of accounting principles.
* Excel proficiency required.
