Job Title: Seasonal Parks Operative
Location: Newtownabbey and surrounding areas
Working Hours: 37 hours, Monday to Friday (8am - 4:15pm) with one Saturday in three on a rotational basis
Pay Rate: £14.36 per hour
Your Role: As a Seasonal Parks Operative, you will undertake various tasks of a grounds maintenance and horticultural nature throughout the Parks Service.
Responsibilities:
* Carry out routine maintenance activities such as leaf collection, hedge cutting, planting, sweeping, spraying, grass cutting, watering, or any other grounds or cemetery maintenance required for effective service delivery.
* Maintain Council pitches and synthetic sports ground facilities through regular maintenance activities.
* Undertake horticultural operations like planting, pruning, seeding, turf laying, and applying fertilizers and herbicides as needed.
* Perform general cleaning/maintenance duties including vehicle/plant equipment cleaning, litter picking, emptying litter bins, sweeping paths and roadways, gritting, snow clearance, and ensuring surfaces are clear of hazards.
* Operate power tools and equipment while maintaining them daily by checking oil, water, fuel, and tires to ensure they are clean and operational.
* Contribute to effective team working, deliver services, interact with the public politely and courteously at assigned locations, record and report complaints to the line manager.
* Clean buildings, toilets, showers, changing rooms, community areas, and pavilions as needed.
* Complete accurate work records daily, adhering to Council policies and procedures, including vehicle/plant/equipment start-up procedures, defect sheets, and daily worksheets.
* Report defects to line managers and supervisors.
* Conduct visual checks on Council property, take action, and report faults/issues to relevant Team Leaders/Assistant Team Leaders.
* Assist with Cemeteries Section duties as required.
* Support Council events and other activities.
* Hold keys to allocated buildings, secure access where necessary.
* In adverse weather conditions, undertake alternative tasks as required.
* Perform other duties within the scope of the post as requested by Team Leaders or Parks and Cemeteries Supervisors.
* Take responsibility for Health and Safety and adhere to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council's Health and Safety Policy.
* Be available for occasional work outside normal hours and basic contracted hours, remunerated according to Council policies.
* Work flexibly during emergencies in other services.
Requirements:
* Experience working in a small team
* Positive attitude and flexible approach
* Knowledge of grass cutting and grounds maintenance techniques
* Understanding of Health and Safety Regulations
* Satisfactory level of general fitness for physical and manual handling elements
* Able to work in an outdoor environment in all types of weather
* Will to work overtime from time to time and adjust to changing shift patterns
