About the Role
The Buildings & Estates Office (B&E) is responsible for the overall management of the University Estate, including Land and Property Management, Master Planning, Capital Development, Facilities Management, etc.
The Office provides integrated support services related to the physical infrastructure of the university.
MTU has expanded significantly both in terms of facilities and accommodation over the past 20 years in particular and has undergone substantial capital development.
MTU has an ambitious physical masterplan to be completed over the coming years together with implementing the Public Sector Climate Action Mandate.
This mandate highlights the main climate action objectives for building energy efficiency and decarbonation.
The university is now seeking applications from suitable candidates for the post of Building Services Engineer to assist with reducing greenhouse gas emissions as part of the B & E Team.
The Buildings Services Engineer will be a competent, experienced engineer with a hands-on attitude, working as part of a multidisciplinary B & E team.
Main duties and responsibilities will include:
* Managing Building Management System (BMS - Cylon) daily, ensuring customer comfort levels are being realised and energy is not wasted.
* Managing & monitoring of the Energy sub-metering system (CEDAR 2).
* Compiling Energy Monthly reports across all MTU facilities.
* Interfacing with all MTU Energy Partners, both Internal and External, including the SEAI and the Office of Public Works on energy reduction programme and taking an active role in ensuring the success of the Energy Management System.
* Prepare and submit all requirements for energy auditing and reporting to satisfy the MTU Executive board and SEAIs, M&R Reporting and all Energy Management system requirements.
* Monitoring and quarterly reporting on expenditure on utilities and instigating measures to reduce running costs and improve efficiency.
* Provide technical expertise, advice, and assistance with respect to all physical facilities including electrical, mechanical, HVAC and utilities.
* Prepare defects and snag lists, dilapidation and condition surveys associated with both new and existing facilities & equipment.
* Arrange and co-ordinate the effective operation of preventive, planned and reactive maintenance of all mechanical, electrical and HVAC services of the university.
* Utilise asset management and other local information technology systems to enhance and ensure effective and efficient maintenance.
* Ensure that the MTU is fully compliant with all relevant Irish & European standards and ensuring ongoing compliance with statutory requirements and responsibilities.
* Creatings Tenders and technical specifications for all associated tendering and reports on all Buildings & Estates maintenance activities.
* Supervising and monitoring the work of mechanical and electrical contractors and other external contractors and consultants in all Buildings & Estates related activities.
* Project Manage Estates Building Service projects from design services, procurement, construction and through to commission and handover.
The successful candidate will have minimum academic qualifications and experience as follows:
* A minimum qualification (Level 8) in building services, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or energy engineering and 3 years relevant experience subsequent to obtaining the above qualifications.
* Demonstrable experience of a role delivering engineering maintenance.
* Demonstrable experience of management of direct labour staff.
* Demonstrable experience of supervising contracts and contractors.
* Fully conversant with health and safety, Construction, Design and Management Regulations.
* Knowledge of public procurement methods and contracts, including Green Procurement requirements.
&Salary: %40,000 - %50,000 per annum, depending on experience"
