Job Title:
CHIEF ENGINEER Location: Cork JOB DESCRIPTION – CHIEF ENGINEER The Chief Engineer is in charge of the Engine Department.
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
The organisation and performance of the personnel assigned to the Engine Department.
The Safety, material condition, cleanliness, fire prevention and emergency procedures relating to the Engine Department spaces.
Responsible within his department that all procedures as described in the Environment Management are adhered to.
To carry out inspections of the engine, plant and machinery spaces at frequent intervals.
The workshop in the deck area is to be used by both the deck- and engine department, but will remain under the supervision of the Chief Engineer.
Maintaining the engine logs and keeping vessel's drawings and technical manuals, including notation of all changes and modifications.
Maintain the computerised maintenance system SK/TM-MASTER/DMSI-Manager on board, including requirements related to DnV's notation- "Planned Maintenance System" (PMS).
According for bunkers and oil and providing the Master/Chief Officer with this information for trim and stability calculations.
Instruction and training of the department personnel, ensuring that all personnel are fully trained with their emergency assignments and are familiar with the firefighting appliances in the Engine training and experience to each officer.
Assist the Master relating to emergency preparedness, including pollution prevention and response to spillage.
Establishing an appropriate watch system and ensuring that effective instructions and routines are prepared and carried out, including procedures for bunkering and overboard discharge.
When finding it necessary to stop an engine or reduce revolutions, prior advice to the Master shall be given whenever possible.
The Chief Engineer is required to operate his department as cost effectively as possible.
Qualifications:
Fulfilling all mandatory and Company requirements related to certificates, training courses.
Candidates will need a qualification as a Chief Engineer - 3000kW, have appropriate STCW certification and be medically fit with an ENG1 medical certificate and must be resident in Ireland.
