Resident Medical Officer - UPMC Whitfield Location: UPMC Whitfield Hospital Job type: Permanent Overview of Role: We are recruiting a Resident Medical Officer on a per-time, permanent basis. This position is 24-hours per week. Suitable for doctors pursuing careers in specialties and in early stages preparing for examinations or research activities. The person in this role acquires significant experience and exposure to various elective procedures in pre-op, intra-op, and post-operative settings.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Clinical Duties: Provide medical services within the scope of Departmental Policies in inpatient and outpatient settings at UPMC Whitfield Hospital. Complete thorough clinical evaluation, explanation to patients and family, and collaborative decision making when necessary. Document patient assessment, history, and physical on admission and follow-up comments in case notes in line with Patient Policy. Diagnose and treat patients under consultant direction. Initiate and monitor treatment as clinically appropriate and safe. Liaise with other clinical disciplines within the hospital. Respond to Code Blues and lead nursing staff in emergency/cardiac arrest procedures. Participate in on-call roster. Assist consultants in theatres when required.

Be aware of infection prevention and control policies, practices, and guidelines appropriate for duties and always follow these to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of infection prevention and control through attendance at mandatory updates and ongoing continuing professional development. Challenge poor infection prevention and control practices of others and report any breaches using UPMC mechanisms.
Information Governance: Comply with UPMC Information Governance policies and standards. Confidentiality and Security: Respect confidentiality of information identifying patients, employees, or business information of the Company. Ensure all confidential information is held securely both on and off site. Disclosure of Information: Unauthorized use or disclosure of information relating to UPMC activities or affairs will be considered a serious disciplinary offence.
Medication Management: Adhere to Medication Policies relevant to the role. Verify and document patient current medication on admission. Give medication advice to patients on discharge.
Professional Standards and Performance Review: Participate in statutory and mandatory training. Maintain high personal and professional standards and act in accordance with professional code of conduct. Take responsibility for maintenance and improvement of personal and professional competence. Participate in appraisal processes including performance standards setting and personal development plan creation.
Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults: Identify and report abuse. Recognize the importance of sharing information in safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Attend safeguarding awareness training and undertake additional training in relation to safeguarding relevant to the role.
