THE ROLE
This position is within the Planning Department reporting to the Senior Executive Planner, Senior Planner and/or other employees nominated by the Chief Executive. The Executive Urban Designer will be responsible for delivering elements of the Planning service and providing a multiplicity of services to the Planning and other Departments in Kildare County Council.
Reporting to the appropriate line manager, the Executive Urban Designer will be responsible for the efficient management of their prescribed work area within the planning or related function. The Executive Urban Designer, with their line manager, may also be required to work closely with service departments to deliver the full range of services and implement local policy provisions.
Responsibilities
1. Provide urban design advice and input into statutory deliverables (e.g. plans required by planning legislation) and non-statutory deliverables (e.g. masterplans, urban framework plans and design statements).
2. Deliver a high-quality urban design advisory service to a diverse client base and work collectively with various departments within the local authority, other state agencies, and the local community to enhance the attractiveness of the County as a place in which to live, work, visit, invest, and enjoy.
3. Provide urban design advice on the formulation of urban design policy and development guidance.
4. Provide urban design advice in the formulation of Character Statements for Architectural Conservation Areas working with the Architectural Conservation Officer.
5. Provide urban design advice on the implementation of projects that help to achieve excellent places across County Kildare, which could be at the scale of town/settlement, neighborhood, place, street, or space.
6. Be responsible for project management where you are the lead on specific projects. You may form part of a multi-disciplinary team led by another Council service or have responsibility for providing urban design advice to projects in their development. This may include contributing to the development management process in relation to complex major developments of scale.
