I am currently seeking applications for a Process Safety / Functional Safety Instrument Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading global player in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector. This is a standout opportunity for an experienced professional where process safety intersects with engineering, operations, and maintenance in a highly regulated and innovative environment.
This role is vital to the safety, compliance, and operational reliability of the site. You'll play a central role in developing, implementing, and maintaining the Functional Safety Management System (FSMS) aligned with IEC-61508 / IEC-61511 standards, ensuring the safety of people, the environment, and assets.
Responsibilities
* Serve as the custodian of the Functional Safety Management System for the site.
* Develop, revise, and implement SOPs, work instructions, and documentation for the FSMS.
* Support Functional Safety Life Cycle activities including:
o Participation in HAZOPs and LOPAs involving SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems).
o Guiding best practices for SIS operation, maintenance, and testing.
o Organising Functional Safety Assessments (FSAs) and external audits.
o Delivering Functional Safety training programs.
* Provide regular status updates to site management.
* Support other engineering systems as needed where capacity and synergies exist.
Requirements:
* Degree or equivalent qualification in Engineering or a related technical discipline. Candidates with a trade background and relevant experience will also be considered.
* 3+ years of experience in a related role (Engineering, Calibration, Instrumentation), preferably within a GMP/process manufacturing environment.
* Strong knowledge of electrical/instrumentation systems and their interface with automation in a processing plant.
* Exposure to engineering or maintenance programme management.
* TUV Rheinland or equivalent certification in Functional Safety (or willingness to obtain with support).
* Familiarity with IEC61508 / IEC61511 is a strong advantage.
* Working knowledge of ATEX principles is desirable.
* Strong analytical and documentation skills.
* Excellent communication, decision-making, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
