Clinical Nurse Manager II FTC - Surgical Day Care

Overview of role:
UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Clinical Nurse Manager II Surgical Day Care on an 11-month fixed term contract. The post of CNM II has a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area. The CNM II will co-ordinate and lead in the implementation and provision of quality care.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Professional /Clinical
The CNM II will:
1. Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.
2. Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership.
3. Be responsible for the co-ordination, assessment, planning, delivery and review of service user care by all staff in designated area.
4. Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care to service users within the guidelines laid out by NMBI. (Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland).
5. Participate in teams / meetings / committees as appropriate, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
6. Facilitate co-ordination, co-operation and liaison across healthcare teams.
7. Collaborate with service users, family, carers, and other staff in treatment / care.
8. Assess, Plan, Implement and evaluate nursing care by personal involvement and supervising the activities of other qualified nurses.
9. To ensure that the care delivered by team is based on standards, which have been formulated on evidence-based practice, and agreed, through hospital policy.
10. To regularly evaluate and monitor patient care by using the hospitals quality systems to ensure that care is delivered.
11. To develop and promote good relationships with patients, families and carers and make the ward environmentally welcoming and homely.
12. To work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
13. To evaluate and further develop the philosophy, objectives and goals of the department.
14. To ensure that all staff are familiar with the use and care of all equipment, and that such equipment is maintained in good working condition.
15. To ensure strict confidentiality of information regarding patients/residents is adhered to.
Managerial Responsibilities:
The CNM II will:
1. Provide the necessary supervision, co-ordination and deployment of nursing and support staff to ensure the optimum delivery of care in the designated area through allocating work fairly and competently.
2. Manage communication at ward and departmental level and facilitate team building.
3. Provide staff leadership and motivation which is conducive to good working relations and work performance.
4. Manage all resources efficiently and effectively.
5. Lead on practice development within the clinical area.
6. Lead and implement change.
7. Promote, facilitate and participate in the development of nursing policies and procedures. Monitor as appropriate and lead on proactive improvement.
8. Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures at area and hospital level.
9. Actively participate in the Nursing Management structure by supporting the Assistant Director of Clinical Services Theatres and deputising in his / her absence when required to do so.
10. Maintain all necessary clinical and administrative records and reporting arrangements.
On- call Rota:
The post holder will be expected to take part in the on-call manager's rota.
Staff Development and Education:
To ensure that the care delivered to patients/clients is a result of individual assessment of care needs and to actively promote this within the ward team.
To ensure that the staff development and induction programme for trained and untrained staff is in place for the clinical area.
To ensure that each member of staff has a personal development plan that addresses the requirements of their present post and provides the opportunity for further development.
To facilitate in developing an environment conducive to promoting reflective practice.
Clinical and Professional Leadership Evidence Based Practice:
To participate and support in promoting evidence based nursing practice.
To participate in developing standards of care utilising research findings through the hospital wide approach.
To promote and improve the quality and standards of care through participating in the quality and patient safety programme.
Clinical Governance:
Participate in innovation and change in the approach to patient care delivery, and contribute to service planning process, based on best practice, particularly in relation to new research findings and advances in treatment.
Participate in the setting of professional standards. Understand and co-operate with the need to measure and audit the effectiveness of care given in order to provide quality care.
Lead and maintain the principles of clinical governance including quality, risk and health & safety and be individually responsible for clinical governance, risk management and health & safety issues within their own work area.
Accurately record and report incidents, near misses and or verbal complaints to appropriate personnel according to Hospital Policy.
Participate in the development of policies, procedures and guidelines to support compliance with research best practice.
Accreditation:
Will familiarise themselves with policies, procedures and guidelines directly related to their clinical care and area.
Assist in the review of policies, procedures and guidelines under the direction of the chapter lead/department manager.
Lean:
Lead, facilitate and participate in lean projects with all disciplines and departments of the hospital.
Support and participate with others to problem solve and continuously improve through the use of the lean tools and techniques.
Attend/participate on-site training as required.

You are required to work in conjunction with your line manager in the planning, monitoring, analysing and improvement of all quality programs.

Initiates, participates in and evaluates audit according to JCI, Hospital policy and Lean requirements under the guidance and supported by an audit lead.
Personnel:

General:
Through the course of the working day or week there may be a requirement to work in other areas of the hospital in line with patient requirements as requested by your line manager/deputy or nurse management.
Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.

In addition records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them and must be kept in safe custody when no longer required.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Be registered in the General Division of the live Register of Nurses kept by NMBI.
* Have completed a Management Course or commit to undertake same.
* Be a minimum of 5 years qualified and have previous experience within a Medical environment.
* Previous management experience is essential.
* Have experience in change management.
* Display evidence of continuing professional development.
* Demonstrate an awareness of HR policies and procedures.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft packages is essential.
* Will play an active role in the continuous improvement programme in the hospital using lean tools and methodology.
* Possess excellent communication skills.
* Effective communication with medical staff, other members of the multi-disciplinary team, and with patients and relatives.
* Implement change in accordance with new developments in nursing.
* Work as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team promoting good teamwork and excellent patient care.
* Possess well-developed leadership, interpersonal and organisational skills.
