The Accounting Specialist performs routine accounting activities such as payroll, general ledger posting, accounts payable and receivable functions and preparation of various accounting reports and financial statements. They should be familiar with standard accounting concepts, practices, and procedures as well as posting journal entries.
Responsibilities
1. Apply accounting principles to enter and review transactions for appropriate treatment
2. Reconcile accounts and research discrepancies
3. Prepare journal entries and bank reconciliations
4. Review account balances for accuracy and reasonableness
5. Complete all steps in a period close with appropriate documentation
6. Follow prior period workpapers to determine level of work to be completed
7. Process payroll and related payroll taxes, including Form 1099’s
8. Prepare sales and other local taxes including commercial activities tax (CAT) filings
9. Identify questions and communicate effectively to appropriate parties, including clients
10. Answer questions from clients or team members on how to use Quickbooks desktop or Quickbooks online (QBO)
11. Preparation of Prepared and Compiled Financial Statements
12. Assisting clients with accounting, payroll and basic software issues
13. Processing of client’s payroll
14. Calculating bonus payments and appropriate deductions from bonus checks
15. Calculating and/or processing payroll tax deposits and payments, as required
16. Assisting tax/accounting and audit departments with training/providing annual adjusted client trial balance
17. Manage and prioritize workload to ensure that deadlines are met
18. Embrace team environment and adapt processes to firm standards
19. Assisting principals with client billing
20. Identifying potential additional services to benefit current clients

12. Internal software abilities - Fixed Asset Solutions, Accounting CS, Caseware Working Papers and GoFileRoom
13. High School diploma or G.E.D.
14. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or comparable accounting and bookkeeping experience preferred
15. 0-4 years in relevant position or equivalent combination of education and experience
16. Basic accounting practices within a business environment preferred
17. Understanding of basic accounting principles
18. Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications with advanced skills in Word and Excel
