Sunday, 26th January 2025 Purpose of the Role: The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team, establishing and maintaining good working relationships aimed at delivering a high standard of care to patients within St.
Jamess Hospital.
The post holder is responsible for managing the care of patients and the needs of their families, ensuring quality is maintained throughout their journey through the unit.
The post holder is required to develop additional clinical skills specific to the area of appointment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities A Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse who is involved in direct patient care with the responsibility of providing the highest standard of evidence based nursing care in partnership with other health care professionals.
The role of the Staff Nurse is: The Registered Nurse must adhere to Code of Professional Practice and Behaviours and be accountable and responsible for own actions.
To develop an understanding of the speciality and following the unit induction programme.
To promote health, prevent disease, and help patients cope with illness.
The nurse will be responsible for the safe collection, labelling, and tagging of biopsy samples.
They will be responsible for all aspects of Infection Control and Sterivigilance within the Radiology Department.
The nurse will work closely with the Radiographers on issues such as appointments and scheduling.
They will be a point of contact for phone calls and enquiries related to patients nursing care.
The Radiology nurse will report to the Radiology CNM II and must be willing to undertake other duties as required.
The Radiology nurse will cover the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed in all areas of the Radiology Department.
The Radiology nurse will cover the invasive procedures performed in Breast Radiology when required.
The Radiology nurse will administer procedural sedation medication as instructed by the Radiologists.
They will assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate care to patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The nurse will work with members of multidisciplinary teams and will participate in team discussions regarding treatment/investigation needs as appropriate.
The Radiology nurse will facilitate education and training of incoming medical staff and nursing students attending the Radiology Department.
To keep the nurse-in-charge aware of any relevant changes as they occur.
To promote and uphold nursing standards by identifying/recommending changes which will enhance the quality of care.
To interpret the significance of the patients clinical observations and record and plan desired changes in care with senior staff.
To maintain confidentiality and ensure all clinical and legal documents are accurate and legible.
Supervise and assess Student Nurses and other junior staff in the clinical area, to ensure they receive the appropriate direction and support.
Report and submit adverse incidents as required.
To be aware of and adhere to Hospital and unit policies and procedures and their revision as appropriate.
To assist with the development and maintenance of standards of care and quality initiatives.
To help develop a culture conducive to the establishment and maintenance of good staff morale.
To promote a learning environment and encourage professional development.
To follow current developments in nursing which will increase professional knowledge and skills.
To ensure own learning needs are met to include relevant study days, courses, and PPD participation.
Is aware and understands the need to adhere to Hospital and/or professional standards, policies, and procedures, relevant to their area of practice.
Communicates effectively in English language, written and spoken, as appropriate to job requirements.
Participate and cooperate with legislative and regulatory requirements in relation to Health and Safety as outlined in the Safety, Health and Welfare Act 2005 and the Hospital Safety Statement.
Ensure own mandatory learning and training is kept up to date.

Required:
Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
AND Minimum of 6 months experience (postgraduate or undergraduate) in Medical/Surgical nursing in an acute hospital/relevant clinical area within the past 2 years.
Note:
Post holders must maintain annual registration with NMBI.
Demonstrate I.T.
skills including excellent keyboard skills.
Desired:
Radiology experience.
Working knowledge of healthcare patient record systems.
Basic life support.
