Mechanical Engineering Technician
CPL have partnered with Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) to recruit for a Mechanical Engineering Technician (TG1 Grade) to join their team on a temporary contract, with possibility of extension.
Pay Rate: £12.59 per/hr
Location: DfI, Strangford Ferry
Benefits: 37 days holiday per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Responsibilities will include:
1. Carrying out work during periods of breakdown or repair, working with contractors, reporting and recording activities to the Ferry Technical Supervisor.
2. Liaising with Ferry Crew as delegated by the Technical Supervisor on ongoing maintenance and repairs.
3. Carrying out daily checks of all machinery, safety equipment and ship systems as delegated and updating a log to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all vessels.
4. Oiling and greasing on a regular basis as delegated.
5. Monitoring ship electronic alarm systems for main engines, propulsion units, generators, and auxiliary equipment and safety systems as delegated.
6. Recording all work done on vessels.
7. Maintaining workshop portable and fixed machinery, safety equipment and other equipment as delegated to ensure safe and efficient workshop operations.
8. Undertaking first line diagnostics and repairs to Variable Message Signs as delegated.
9. Carrying out related duties as required by the Technical Supervisor.
10. Assisting with on-scene activities during execution of Oil Spill Response Plan.
11. Assisting the on-scene supervisor as necessary in relation to the Ferry Service Contingency Plan for Marine Pollution.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
1. Must hold a Mechanical qualification and have 6 months experience working on large engines.
Relevant or Equivalent Qualifications
Applications will also be considered from applicants with relevant formal qualifications considered to be of an equivalent or higher standard to those stated.
