Job Objectives
We are currently seeking applications from Occupational Therapists interested in joining the expanding Occupational Therapy team within Nua Healthcare. The Occupational Therapist will be working with adults in a well-established Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit based in North Cork working alongside a diverse multidisciplinary team. Candidates must demonstrate the necessary interest, capability, performance and enthusiasm in line with the requirements of this role.
This will include the following on a day-to-day basis:
1. Live our Mission, Vision and Values.
2. Manage a caseload of children and adults residing in Nua Healthcare providing assessment, intervention and evaluation of treatment programmes across self- care, leisure and productive occupations
3. Engage in interdisciplinary working with members of the clinical team including but not limited to Consultant Psychiatrists, Behaviour Specialists, Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, Social Care Workers and Assistance Support Workers to meet the person-centred needs of service users on your caseload.
4. Complete environmental assessments to ensure that an individual’s environment is accessible to his/her specific sensory and/or physical support requirements.
5. Carry out reviews of service users’ postural support needs and complete basic and complex seating assessments as required.
6. Complete assessments of service users’ sensory processing and advise on strategies to best support their sensory processing difficulties.
7. Support service users transition back into the home after being hospitalised as required.
8. Promote purposeful engagement in self-care, leisure and productive pursuits for all age profiles with due regard for the individual’s abilities and preferences.
9. Work with service users and staff to assist in improving service users’ safety and independence in activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living.
10. Facilitate evidenced based group therapy programmes in line with the assessed needs of the service users.
11. Complete detailed reports for internal/external stakeholders and ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes and reports are in accordance with Nua Healthcare policy and professional standards.
12. Provide support to key stakeholders for carry over of Occupational Therapy recommendations.
13. Advise schools on how best to support service users’ sensory or learning needs.
14. Direct and supervise Occupational Therapy students.
15. Complete any mandatory trainings assigned through Nua Healthcare’s Learning Management System.
16. Attending internal/external conferences/ courses relevant to practice.
17. Participate in and follow up on actions set or learnings identified from clinical supervision and performance appraisals.
18. Contribute to the sharing of knowledge and best practice both within the Occupational Therapy Department and wider Nua Healthcare Service.
19. Promote a safe working environment in accordance with Health and Safety legislation.
Skills Requirement
Qualification:
20. Hold a Degree/ Masters in Occupational Therapy from a 3rd level institution offering a programme of study accredited by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.
21. Be registered with CORU or show proof of pending registration at application stage.
Knowledge:
22. Possess a knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to risk assessment.
23. Knowledge, training and experience supporting those with sensory processing difficulties.
24. Knowledge of the Judgement Support Framework and experience supporting compliance with same.
25. Knowledge of individual care planning and experience contributing to individual risk assessment.
Experience:
26. Have at least three years relevant post qualification experience as an Occupational Therapist working in a mental health setting alongside a multidisciplinary team.
27. Have experience in running therapeutic services and programs including occupation-based and psycho-educational groups.
28. Experience in the implementation of sensory integration approaches with a recognised sensory integration course completed.
