Position Overview: We are seeking a Chief Medical Scientist in Haematology to lead the Haematology Laboratory team. You will manage the provision of a Quality Diagnostic Haematology and Coagulation Service in co-operation with the Laboratory Manager, Clinical Director of Pathology, Consultant Haematologist, Medical Scientists, and laboratory staff. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the Haematology Laboratory, ensuring efficient and accurate diagnostic services Implement and maintain quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Participating with the Laboratory Manager, and Consultant Haematologist in identifying and implementing operational processes in Haematology to the standards of best practice to optimise use of resources. Participating in future development of the Laboratory Service that supports the clinical needs of the patients and is consistent with the strategic plan of the Hospital. Leading and training a team of skilled staff and creating and promoting healthy working relationships. Participate in the maintenance of the ISO 15189 quality management system which is patient centred and ensures quality focused results are provided for patient care. Actively participating in and promoting continuing education and research activities consistent with the position. Performing routine and specialised work to the highest professional standards as determined by the Laboratory Manager. Assuming responsibility for the quality of work and carrying out all duties in accordance with Hospital policy, and accreditation standards. Carrying out and organising the technical work within the section to meet the timelines required of the laboratory service. Ensuring that all policies and procedures identified by the hospital as being relevant to the post have been read, acknowledged, implemented, and adhered to. To ensure that the management of safety, health and welfare is successfully integrated into all activities undertaken within their area of responsibility, so far as is reasonably practicable. Participating in regular Health and Safety audits. Promoting a professional, punctual, and dedicated team with good open communications. Manage the Departmental staff resources ensuring that staffing levels and skill mix are appropriate and within the resources allocated. Qualifications: BSc in Medical Science or equivalent. MSc or FIBMS in Haematology or a related field is preferred. An equivalent qualification validated by the Academy of Clinical Science and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM). CORU registration is mandatory. A minimum of 6 years of experience in a Haematology laboratory, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role. Demonstrate excellent communication skills including the ability to lead a team Strong leadership, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
