Occupational Therapist (Primary Care Centre)
My clients are a busy Primary Care facility in Tipperary and they are now looking for an Occupational Therapist to join their team. The Occupational Therapist will provide client-centred therapy services to individuals, families, and groups within the primary care setting. The primary focus is to improve patients’ functional abilities and enhance their quality of life by enabling them to engage in daily activities, addressing physical, cognitive, and mental health concerns.
Key Responsibilities of the Occupational Therapist
1. Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ functional abilities related to activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), and mobility.
2. Develop and administer personalized treatment plans based on initial assessments and clients’ specific needs and goals.
3. Perform ergonomic and environmental assessments to recommend home or workplace adaptations.
4. Provide therapy to individuals with a variety of conditions, including neurological, musculoskeletal, mental health, and developmental disorders.
5. Use evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including adaptive equipment training, cognitive-behavioural strategies, physical rehabilitation, and mental health support.
6. Offer rehabilitation post-injury or post-surgery to help clients regain or improve their functional skills.
7. Educate patients, families, and caregivers on best practices for improving daily functioning and independence.
8. Provide training on the use of adaptive devices, mobility aids, and home modification strategies.
9. Conduct group sessions on topics such as stress management, time management, and self-care.
10. Work closely with other members of the healthcare team, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, and social workers, to provide integrated care.
11. Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
12. Refer clients to additional services as required, including mental health, social care, or community support services.
13. Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including assessment findings, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
14. Ensure all documentation is compliant with clinical and legal standards.
15. Participate in health promotion and awareness activities, such as workshops, community outreach, or preventive programs.
16. Advocate for occupational therapy services and raise awareness of its importance in the primary care setting.
17. Engage in continuous professional development by attending relevant training, workshops, or seminars.
18. Stay up-to-date with current trends, research, and evidence-based practices in occupational therapy.
Qualifications and Experience of the Occupational Therapist
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
2. Coru registered or close to registration.
3. Experience in occupational therapy practice, preferably within a primary care or community-based setting.
4. Experience working with diverse patient populations, including children, adults, and seniors.
