Technical Engineering Manager (70-80% Hands-On Coding)

Following a recent $100 million investment and securing NASA as a client, this company is moving into state-of-the-art offices in Belfast city centre as part of its rapid expansion.
The Role
You will lead a talented team of engineers while remaining highly hands-on (70-80% coding). As a Technical Engineering Manager, you will own technical solutions from problem definition through to delivery, ensuring the development of robust and scalable security products.
Responsibilities
* Technical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of Java developers while actively contributing to coding and architecture decisions.
* End-to-End Project Ownership: Drive the full lifecycle of software development, from design and development to deployment and monitoring.
* Cloud-Native Development: Build and optimize backend systems for performance, scalability, and security within AWS, GCP, and Azure environments.
* Security & e BPF Development: Develop e BPF-based sensors to enhance Kubernetes cluster visibility and proactive threat detection.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with frontend, Dev Ops, and product teams to deliver innovative solutions based on customer feedback.
* System Optimization: Ensure the continuous improvement of data-intensive systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices.
About You
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
* 5+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
* Strong Java development expertise; experience with Golang, C, or Python is a plus.
* Proven experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
* Deep understanding of Kubernetes, Docker, and microservices architectures.
* Experience working with high-performance, data-intensive systems (databases, event-driven architectures, messaging systems).
* Knowledge of security best practices and an interest in cloud security.
