Do you want to help fuel connection and creativity in County Wicklow?
Do you want to support an energetic and thriving arts organisation in maximising its impact?
Mermaid Arts Centre, County Wicklow’s creative engine-room. With a theatre, gallery, cinema, café and a lively programme of events to enjoy and participate in, we're a home for artists and artistic communities to create, connect and make memories.
We are looking for people who champion access to art and creativity for all and who are committed to a belief in the power of arts and culture to create connection within communities. People who have the capacity to support our brilliant team to deliver a dynamic programme of events across artforms at our purpose-built centre in Bray and at locations and venues across County Wicklow and around the country. People who want to put the arts at the centre of conversations about the kind of world we want to live in.
In 2024 and beyond, we are thinking about how we can deepen our roots in the community, about how we can model working sustainably whilst also maximising our impact and continuing to champion artists and their work.
At a time when we are developing a refreshed strategic vision 2024-2027 and planning for the future of the organisation, Mermaid is looking for two exceptional individuals to join our Board of Directors.
We welcome applications from people with the following skills and/or working in the following areas:
1. Community & Local Arts
2. Legal
3. Fundraising/Philanthropy
4. Sustainability & Climate Adaptation
Mermaid welcomes applications from everyone but particularly encourages applications by people from a diversity of national, ethnic or cultural groups (including, but not limited to, Asian, Black, Traveller and minority ethnic people, refugees, people with disabilities, working-class and LGBTQI+ people).
Board Members of Mermaid Arts Centre serve a 3-year term, renewable to a maximum of 6 years. Mermaid Arts Centre is a registered charity, and this is a voluntary, unpaid position.
The Board of Directors meets six times per year including the AGM. There are sub-committee meetings attended by some Board Members which meet no more than three times a year. Directors are expected to contribute to the ongoing development of the organisation and attend additional events where possible.
To apply we ask applicants to submit a comprehensive CV/biography, and a short expression of interest (max. 1 sheet A4 or 3 mins film or audio file) that tells us about you and why you are interested in this role at Mermaid Arts Centre. Please include details of any service as a Board Director, Trustee or any other voluntary/community work. Applications can be sent to recruit@mermaidartscentre.ie
