Junior Buyer/Planner – Job Description
The Role
The continuously evolving nature of the Company means that the role of Buyer/Planner will also continue to evolve. The main elements of the role are outlined below, as they apply to both the Procurement and Planning functions, but these elements will be subject to constant change, and focus, in line with the evolution of the Company.
Procurement
1. Involvement in all aspects of procurement including:
2. Issue of Purchase Orders, checking acknowledgements and arranging collection of materials.
3. Expedite, reschedule or cancel material deliveries as dictated by changes in demand with the goal of continually aligning supply with demand.
4. Dealing with shipping companies on a daily basis to ensure materials are collected on time and that deliveries are received as expected.
5. Arranging for certificates of conformance to be available for all items prior to delivery.
6. Work closely with planning department and warehouses to ensure material availability to meet the constantly changing production plan and customer demands.
7. Maintenance and management of non-stock order book, including stationery.
8. Support New Product Introduction and re-sourcing of existing products.
9. Assist with all other duties within the Purchasing Department such as:
1. Ensure all relevant information in computer system is kept up-to-date – including supplier details, cross-reference information and prices.
2. Maintain planning system integrity as it applies to the Purchasing and Planning Department.
3. Maintain inventory at required levels, and report on same.
4. Assist in the processing of all invoices where required.
5. Participate in the development and implementation of all purchasing and planning policies and procedures, and in the continuous improvement of these.
Planning
1. Develop a comprehensive understanding of the planning model used in Castolin.
2. Suggest improvements to the planning processes and assist in the implementation of all agreed improvements.
3. Management and maintenance of all planning parameters within the computer system, as they apply to finished products, intermediate products and raw materials:
1. Regular review and update of safety stocks and re-order points.
2. Maintenance and update of forecasting system.
4. Assist with other functions in the Planning Department as required.
Buyer/Planner – Person
1. Must be a motivated, enthusiastic individual with ability to work on own initiative.
2. Must be a Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Will demonstrate effective negotiation skills.
4. Will have excellent computer/organisational skills as well as good numerical skills.
5. Fluency in English is essential. A second European language (preferably French or German) would be a distinct advantage.
Experience and Qualifications
1. Must have at least 1-2 years’ experience in a purchasing environment, working with an MRP system.
2. Must be educated to a minimum of Certificate Level (preferably degree level) in a business related discipline at Third Level.
3. APICS or IIPMM qualification (or a willingness to complete) an advantage.
4. Must be a pro-active Self-starter, with excellent attention to detail.
5. Must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Must have a good/excellent knowledge of Microsoft packages (Excel, Word, Outlook).
