Job Description
The Cooperage Operations Engineer is responsible for continuous improvement of production equipment and processes to maximize each department’s overall health & safety, quality and output efficiency. The successful candidate will have a mix of technical knowledge and hands-on skills with a positive attitude to problem solving and advanced data literacy.
Job Duties:
1. Prioritizes delivery of a safe work environment adhering to all facility, company, and regulatory requirements.
2. Responsible for mechanical, electrical, hydraulic equipment and systems operation.
3. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment malfunctions, performs fixes as appropriate or implements alternative solutions to minimize downtime.
4. Plans, schedules and carries out a servicing program and pre-emptive equipment modifications, working closely with teams to minimize interruptions to production.
5. Keeps accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts inventory, and equipment performance metrics.
6. Examines production processes using Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control phases and presents process improvement plans.
7. Monitors quality & production data, tracks and reports against performance improvement projects.
8. Continues implementation of 5S and improvement of workspace cleaning practices.
9. Manages on-site planning and installation of new equipment, working closely with our US-based internal Engineering team and third-party equipment providers.
10. Plans workflows and develops Standard Operating Procedures for new production facilities.
11. Trains and upskills Supervisors & Operatives on best practice for operation and care of equipment and correct execution of Standard Operating Procedures.
12. Continues implementation of ISO 9001 and building ISO 14001 requirements, conducting management reviews, and ensuring action items are completed.
13. Provides input and information for production planning and forecasting, budget preparation and strategic planning.
All successful candidates will possess the following skills and qualifications:
1. Level 5 Qualification in Maintenance, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or similar
2. Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience of working on mechanical, electrical & hydraulic systems within a production environment
3. Experience of Lean Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt certification an advantage)
4. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
5. Experience of ISO 9001 standards
6. Strong planning & forecasting skills with advanced Excel experience
7. Clear communication
8. Experience with IT systems hardware & software
9. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position
10. Fabrication experience would be an advantage
11. Forklift experience would be an advantage
12. Available for international travel
