Chief Engineer, Data Centre Engineering Operations ARN-DCEO
Amazon is seeking a Chief Engineer to join the Data Center Engineering Operations Team in Sweden. The team maintains the critical physical infrastructure supporting Amazon Web Services. This involves ensuring 100% availability of data center MEP systems while providing first-class customer service within the data centers.
The Chief Engineer (CE) ensures that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment operates at peak efficiency. This includes planned preventative maintenance, daily corrective work, emergency response to issues, and interaction with onsite Engineering Operations Technicians and third-party vendors. The CE serves as an expert technical resource and supports Amazon within its owned and operated data centers.
The role requires managing large-scale technical projects and new region support from conception to completion. These projects involve collaboration with engineering, automation, procurement, and finance teams in local and global settings. The CE will create key milestones, obtain quotes, track costs, and document project results for future implementation.
The CE directs, trains, and supports EOTs in troubleshooting and operating electrical and mechanical equipment, including generators, switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, chillers, cooling towers, chemical treatment systems, pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.
This role will be based in Sweden, with flexibility to travel to other locations within the EMEA region if required.
Key Responsibilities:
* Act as a technical referent for Engineering Operation Technicians
* Oversee day-to-day operations and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in data centers
* Operate independently with limited direct management
* Assist in the design and build out of new facilities
* Act as an escalation point for all facilities-related technical issues
* Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures
* Troubleshoot and report facility and data server-level events
* Create and deploy new standard practices
* Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians
* Ensure all safety procedures are adhered to
* Utilize internal Change Management Systems to manage building workflows
* MV/LV Isolation to facilitate MV maintenance
* Provide metric availability reporting on a weekly basis
* Communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's or Master degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with 5+ years relevant industry experience
* Demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies, theory, and safe electrical practice according to guidelines set by relevant electrical safety supervisory bodies
* Fundamental knowledge of network design, low/high voltage cabling, BMS Systems, Monitoring and alarming systems
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* 6+ years of experience in operations and on-call support for Data Center facilities or Mission Critical Plants/Production facilities
* Project Management experience
Salary: €120,000 - €150,000 per annum
