Position Summary
The INFANT Research Centre was established in 2013 and is dedicated to maternal and child health research. The overarching vision of INFANT is to advance maternal and child health translational research and to place Ireland at the forefront of this field. INFANT is hosted by University College Cork (UCC) and is focused on delivering scientific excellence and impact through a range of activities in academic, translational, and commercial areas. The INFANT team is a diverse group of clinicians and scientists who are supported by selected industry partners, international collaborators, and business and regulatory advisors. The Centre is funded by a range of national and international funding agencies, EU, industry, and philanthropy. INFANT has a well-established Clinical Trials Platform which is underpinned by ISO 9001:2015 accredited Quality Management System.
The INFANT Research Centre is now accepting applications for a Research Support Officer – Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiologist) for the Wave project. This is a three-year project funded by the Enterprise Ireland Disruptive Technology and Innovation Fund (DTIF) in which the INFANT Research Centre is partnered with two industry partners, Cergenx and Evervault. The aim of the overall project is to develop the Newborn Brain Test (NBT), a novel platform to assess newborn brain activity in infants at birth through an automated AI assessment.
Project Title: Wave
Post Duration: 36 Months
A Research Support Officer - Clinical will work under the direction of a Principal Investigator/Project Leader to manage, co-ordinate and implement various clinical research studies to support the research project/area. This title will apply to a person of appropriate qualifications e.g. BSc, MSc or PhD employed for the purpose of supporting a research project/area.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
PROFESSIONAL
* Provide a high standard of clinical research work within a multi-professional research team.
* Ensure clinical research work is conducted in accordance with clinical research protocols.
* Regularly assess the needs of the research project/area and effect any changes as required.
* Participate in internal and external working groups to develop and share evidence-based best practice.
* Undertake research, working under the direction of a Principal Investigator or their nominee in clinical areas to support the research project/area.
RESEARCH
* Manage, coordinate, organize and implement basic science and clinical trial protocols to support the research project/area.
* Ensure accurate collection and maintenance of all study records, including those of team members.
* Actively participate in recruiting patients for trials, liaising with other professional groups and research staff to achieve this as required.
* Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the research project/area.
* Facilitate effective communication of complex study information with all relevant research personnel, including medical, nursing, administrative, and pharmacy staff, as required.
* Use both conventional EEG and the NBT Wave device to record newborn EEG as required.
* Grade and label EEGs from historic data sets.
* Grade and label EEGs captured by the Wave device.
* Contribute to writing up research results for reports and publications.
MANAGEMENT
* Manage own workload, patient interviews, and co-ordinate investigations and procedures, arranging any follow-up necessary for complex research trials, as required.
* Develop effective working partnerships with staff, ensuring the two-way flow of all necessary documentation and information.
* Report adverse events to Principal Investigator or his/her nominee and ensure completion of appropriate documentation.
* Inform the Principal Investigator or his/her nominee of any untoward incidents or problem areas affecting the research project/area.
* Compile information for and accurately complete project reports for delegated studies.
* Promote effective teamwork, initiate and support management of change within the research project/area, as required.
* Ensure safe use of equipment in the research area.
EDUCATION & DEVELOPMENT
* Participate in teaching programmes for staff as required.
* Act as a role model, encouraging staff to develop new ways of working.
* Assist/educate participants in research protocols and methodologies.
* Recognize and use spontaneous and formal learning opportunities and share knowledge and experience with other staff.
* Continue to maintain and develop personal and management skills by undertaking mandatory and other training as required.
* Support research staff in the implementation and organization of basic science and clinical trial protocols when appropriate.
Health & Safety: Each staff member is responsible for discharging any safety functions delegated to them by their Head of College/School/Department/Centre/Unit, in relation to the areas/activities under their control, co-operating and assisting the University and the Head of College/School/Department/Centre/Unit in the discharge of their statutory safety responsibilities.

SELECTION CRITERIA
The successful candidate will be expected to have:
* A graduate qualification in a field or discipline relevant to the area of investigation i.e. BSc, MSc or PhD.
* A professional qualification in clinical measurement or clinical physiology (Neurophysiology).
* A minimum of 5 years post qualification experience in a healthcare or research setting.
* Substantial experience in recording and interpreting clinical neonatal EEG.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Demonstrable knowledge of good clinical practice.
* Clinical research experience/interest in clinical research.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Able to use initiative.
* Able to prioritise and deliver agreed objectives.
* Experience in the field of Clinical Data Science and Analytics would be an advantage.
