Cumann Lúthchleas Gael is Ireland’s leading sporting and cultural organisation with membership approaching one million people and in excess of 500,000 playing participants at all levels. Inspired by its amateur status and supported by the voluntary efforts of all its members, the GAA devotes its entire resources to the development of Gaelic Games and Culture nationally and in local communities.
The GAA is seeking a Communications Manager to join the communications team. This role will initially be seconded to the Camogie Association. The successful candidate will be responsible for working on driving awareness and profile of the Association and will play a vital role in implementing the Associations Strategic Plan.
The Communications Manager will report to the Director of Communications, and will lead the Communications function of the Camogie Association in the short term and have responsibility for developing and implementing strategy in the following areas: Communication, Marketing, Brand & Identity.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
1. Development and effective implementation of Association’s Communication and PR Strategy (internal/external) including management of all media/social media and publications, across all platforms to promote profile of Association.
2. Establish and Manage CRM system including stakeholder management database to manage existing and new relationships for the benefit of members.
3. Create a brand strategy and management framework to strengthen the Camogie brand presence and awareness.
4. Monitor trends of similar sporting bodies and plan for future developments.
5. Manage all Camogie Association communications with partners/stakeholders and ensure commercial partners rights and benefits are adhered to.
6. Deliver annual corporate communications calendar across team, ensuring clear communications regarding all key national games, initiatives and events, and ensure that all support our vision, mission and strategic priorities.
7. Co-ordinate preparation of annual report and materials for Annual Congress.
8. Effective procurement of communications related supplies and services to achieve best value.
9. Support and develop the work of the PROs, PR Ógs and volunteers and the operation and training of the PRO network, through development and delivery of training.
10. Working closely with the GAA to maximise profile, coverage and develop opportunities for the Association in the area of media rights and broadcast outputs to raise and maintain the strong public profile of the Association.
11. Organise media launches or specific initiatives and responsible for ensuring all relevant information is gathered and submitted to the media from across units and province.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:
1. Strong leadership and management experience in a fast paced and diverse environment.
2. An ability to work independently, as a manager, and as part of a vibrant diverse team.
3. Have an interest in the sport and a knowledge of the structures and operations of a sporting organisation.
4. Highly organised, thorough and conscientious, with demonstrated ability to work to deadlines.
5. A relevant Level 8 honours degree and/or equivalent professional qualification.
6. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar managerial role.
7. Experience of designing and implementing Communication and marketing strategies.
8. Demonstratable experience of preparing budgets and reporting financial and operational.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills and experience of communicating effectively to present, lead and influence a diverse and senior audience and managing relationships at all levels.
