Job Description
In this key position, the candidate will take on a crucial leadership role in driving and maintaining top-tier Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality standards across the organisation.
Their responsibilities include:
* Developing and implementing QHSE policies and procedures to promote a company-wide, safety-first culture and a healthy work environment.
* Conducting regular site audits and inspections to identify potential hazards, risks, non-conformances and opportunities for improvement (OFIs).
* Providing leadership and guidance to employees on QHSE matters, including developing and delivering monthly training sessions and issuing safety bulletins.
* Investigating all accidents, incidents, near misses and non-conformances to determine the root cause using appropriate QHSE methods, identifying appropriate corrective and preventative actions and coordinating their implementation.
* Producing accurate and timely QHSE Monthly Management Reports and Quarterly Board Reports.
* Chairing and driving QHSE Committee meetings, ensuring raised actions are reviewed, communicated and closed out.
* Coordinating weekly Toolbox Talks to reinforce safety messages and raise awareness amongst employees, both office and site, the potential hazards, proper procedures and company policies.
* Compiling Weekly Vehicle Checklists from site teams.
* Compiling daily site whereabouts and maintaining accurate record of man hours.
* Ensuring all equipment is calibrated and fit for purpose.
* Understanding current legislative requirements and updating policies and procedures in case of changes, highlighting concerns to senior management.
* Enforcing compliance to these requirements throughout the business.
* Conducting and reviewing Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMs) together with office, project and site teams to detect potential hazards and plan precautionary measures.
* Liaising with Projects to issue and update safe work instructions and review COSHH requirements.
* Responsible for ensuring COSHH assessments are up to date.
* Responsible for maintaining our certifications such as Constructionline, NICEIC, Achilles, and CHAS, ensuring that these are consistently upheld and adhered to.
* Managing the Emergency Preparedness & Response process.
* Own and maintain the Business Management System (BMS) in line with the requirements of ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001.
* Conducting induction and training of BMS for all new employees.
* Conducting internal audits of the BMS processes to ensure understanding and compliance.
* Acting as the Management Representative for external audits and interaction with auditors.
* Alerting Senior Management Team to all serious non-conformances and persistent risks, proposing preventative and corrective actions.
* Preparing and facilitating the annual BMS Management Review.
Essential Criteria:
* NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent).
* Technical membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body.
* Environmental Management qualification (such as IEMA).
* Sound knowledge of ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001.
* Minimum 2 years experience as QHSE advisor/manager in the construction and utilities sector.
* Demonstrated ability to uphold certifications such as Constructionline, NICEIC, Achilles and CHAS.
* Strong leadership skills with experience in driving QHSE performance across multi-disciplinary teams.
