Go-Ahead Ireland is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who will have daily control of planned and reactive maintenance activities for the expanding fleet. The position reports to the Engineering Director.
You will be responsible for the following duties:
1. Responsible for delivering vehicle maintenance and accident repairs, and refurbishment.
2. Plans staffing, delivery and control activities for vehicle inspections, identifying defects and documentation management including CVRT preparation and testing.
3. Closely monitor sickness/absence and overtime levels and take such remedial action as necessary to keep within target levels. Ensure return to work interviews are completed in the required time and undertake wellbeing calls as necessary.
4. Monitors KPIs such as compliance, lost kilometres and breakdowns, and works with the technical team to ensure continuous improvement across all engineering activities and to produce monthly reports for the Engineering Director.
5. Supports and develops engineers to improve and develop skills and supports apprentices to develop in line with manpower plan.
6. Ensures upkeep of our asset management system to provide a full and detailed record of all maintenance activities.
7. Supervises and audits the activities of contractors and subcontractors on site to ensure delivery in line with contracts and in accordance with safety, security and quality processes and policies.
8. Ensures the effectiveness of the vehicle defect reporting system.
9. Ensure that the conditions of the company’s Operator Licence are not infringed by any act or omission and to ensure that all vehicles are always maintained to company and CVRT standards.
10. Ensures the safety, health and wellbeing of all engineering colleagues and visitors to the engineering facilities through effective safety leadership and compliance with the business Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, procedures and processes and ISO standards.
11. Ensures effective management of all engineering resources and budget to ensure sufficient fit equipment is available to meet requirements, and standards are compliant with regulations, legislation and Group Standards.
12. Direct responsibility for support engineering (unplanned repair, maintenance and vehicle recovery) through a department of support supervisors and engineers.
13. Responsible for maintaining up to date points of contact for the effective support of the AVL within the NTA and approved contractors.
14. Ensures adequate control and management of all engineering stores, equipment, tooling and miscellaneous inventory, through appropriate accounting and reporting processes.
15. Oversees the provision of workshop engineering (planned maintenance and inspection) through the management of the engineering supervisor.
16. Responsible for the early rectification of faults to the In-Vehicle System of the AVL System either through direct repair or through escalation to the NTA or their approved contractor within 2 days of notification.
17. Ensures that all newly hired engineers have the right skills and sufficient experience to perform competently, and provide technical direction, support and guidance to business colleagues as required.
18. Acts as the key contact for the following: All vehicle manufacturers and major spares suppliers; All workshop tools, test equipment, plant and MHE suppliers and contractors; Local Trades Union representatives; NTA and their approved repair agents.
19. This position will require a degree of flexibility with working hours to cover key events, attend meetings and where necessary to attend to emergency situations.

4. Demonstrable experience of heavy commercial vehicle workshop management at an equivalent level of managerial responsibility.

6. Experience in managing industry recognised fleet management system
Desirable:
1. Experience of managing fleet maintenance in truck, bus or coach
2. Appropriate membership of trade body
3. Experience of developing apprentices
4. Relevant certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Management or the equivalent.
5. Passenger Transport managers CPC holder
