Senior Mechanical Estimator

Responsibilities
You will be responsible for preparing accurate mechanical cost estimates ensuring timely submission of tenders. You will report directly to the Estimating Manager.
1. Conduct in-depth reviews of tender documents, drawings, specifications, schedules, etc.
2. Manage quantity take-offs and populate pricing documents.
3. Obtain competitive quotations from suppliers and sub-contractors.
4. Interrogate and validate incoming quotations from sub-contractors to ensure they are specification compliant.
5. Present the completed estimate to the Pre-Construction Director and the Board of Directors.
6. Tender document control including drawing analysis and specifications for inclusion in BOQ’s.
7. Mentor and train junior members of the mechanical estimation team.
8. Co-ordinate and collaborate with the Electrical Estimators.
9. Participate in the development of procedures to ensure a high standard of quality control in the documents produced by the Estimating Department.
10. Manage and complete a large-scale complex tender autonomously from start to finish.
11. Identify risks and potential tender opportunities and highlight these to the estimating manager.
12. Ensure level of detail in the estimates and whether potential risks and contingencies are adequately accounted for.
13. Effective communication with clients, subcontractors, and internal team members.
14. Manage estimating manpower to ensure efficient use of manpower and lead junior estimators in the successful completion of their individual tasks.
15. Identify and cost potential value engineering opportunities.
Requirements
1. Previous mechanical cost estimating experience in a contracting environment with experience of delivering tenders from enquiry to award stage is essential.
2. Strong computer skills especially in the use of MS Office.
3. Strong understanding of mechanical & process pipework systems, HVAC, plumbing and other mechanical building services systems.
4. Good knowledge of different mechanical & process pipework materials.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. Ability to interpret drawings and specifications, perform accurate take-offs, and prepare detailed BOQs.
7. Ability to manage own workload and meet deadlines.
8. Must display excellent time management, communication, numerical, analytical, and organisational skills.
9. Problem solving skills with attention to detail and multitasking abilities.
