Clinical Director Required Qualifications:
A recognised third level degree or diploma (QQ1 level 8 equivalent) obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours were obtained in that subject, and which is accredited by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
A recognized post-graduate professional qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health.
Essential Experience:
At least 1 year satisfactory post-graduate experience in the area of professional psychology.
Applicants must demonstrate that they have acquired, in appropriate health settings (i.e.
Adult Mental Health/Psychiatry of Later Life), at least 60 days or equivalent supervised clinical placements as part of the professional qualification, or at least 60 days or equivalent post-qualification supervised work experience as a psychologist in adult mental health.
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and management ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
Desirable:
Post-qualification experience working within adult mental health/psychiatry of later life.
Experience working within a mental health rehabilitation setting/framework.
Training in cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Training/expertise in at least one other therapeutic modality (e.g.
family therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, emotion-focused therapy, compassion-focused therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy).
Have good knowledge and experience of health, safety and other statutory regulations affecting a healthcare organization.
Be able to illustrate a high level of verbal and non-verbal sills in order to effectively communicate with and relate to patients, visitors, colleagues, management team and board members.
Be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Experience working in a hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
Professional and Clinical: Conduct psychological assessments and provide therapy (individual, family, group).
Manage caseload and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team.
Report to the Clinical Director and liaise with relevant consultants.
Conduct research, particularly for service evaluation and patient care needs.
Ensure evidence-based, high-quality patient care and comply with regulatory standards.
Support patient discharge/transfer planning and maintain confidentiality.
Administrative
Responsibilities:
Perform administrative tasks, advise on legal matters, and handle complaints.
Develop and review policies and protocols for optimal care.
Participate in committees and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
Promote diversity, respect, and effective incident reporting.
Health and Safety:
Report and address safety concerns impacting staff or patient care.
Follow health and safety protocols, including infection control and risk reporting.
Educational and Development:
Initiate and participate in research, staying updated on clinical advancements.
Engage in relevant training, seminars, and conferences.
Ethical
Responsibilities:
Follow the professional code of conduct and support the ethos of the organization.
Ensure research complies with ethical guidelines.
