Key Account Manager and Head of Secondary Care

Overview / Purpose of the Role
The role will be the primary point of contact for a defined group of clients of United Drug Distributors Ireland Limited together with the management of our hospital business across Ireland, focusing on strengthening relationships, driving business performance, and ensuring effective delivery of services.
This role is integral to the success of our partnerships with healthcare providers and will involve strategic account management, business development, and leadership across the manufacturer and hospital channels.
The role reports directly to the Director of United Drug Distributors (Board Member).
Key Responsibilities
Secondary Care
Account Management & Relationship Building:
Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders in hospitals, including procurement managers, hospital pharmacists, and relevant stakeholders.
Act as the primary point of contact for key hospital accounts, ensuring a deep understanding of their needs and requirements.
Maintain effective relationships with key HSE personnel.
Sales Strategy & Business Development:
Lead the development and implementation of sales strategies and initiatives to grow revenue in the hospital segment.
Identify new business opportunities within the hospital sector and work closely with the sales and marketing teams to capitalize on them.
Monitor market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to inform strategic planning.
Collaboration with Internal Teams:
Work cross-functionally with internal teams (e.g., supply chain, finance, marketing) to ensure seamless service delivery, effective management of net working capital and high levels of customer satisfaction.
Provide regular updates and reports to the United Drug Distributors Director, offering insights and recommendations based on customer feedback and market analysis.
Contract Negotiation & Tender Management:
Lead contract negotiations with hospital accounts, ensuring favorable terms while aligning with company objectives.
Manage the tendering process for hospital contracts, including proposal preparation, submission, and follow-up.

Account Management
Build and develop professional relationships with defined client base.
Act as primary point of contact and ensure client engagement is focused and relevant.
Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
Agree, monitor and share key performance indicators (KPIs) for an agreed set of activities, ensuring targets are achieved and key trends are identified and analysed.
Provide regular performance reports and analysis to the senior leadership team, highlighting successes, risks, and opportunities.
Team Leadership & Development:
Provide leadership and direction to any supporting team members, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Mentor and develop the skills of junior team members.
General
Compliance & Risk Management:
Ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements and industry standard.
Manage risk by staying informed of changes in healthcare policies and regulations that may impact our business.
Stakeholder Engagement & Networking:
Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities across both manufacturing and hospital sectors.
Maintain strong relationships with external partners, including healthcare organizations, regulatory bodies, and industry associations.
Key Experience / Skills / Education
Proven experience in key account management, preferably within the pharmaceutical or healthcare distribution sector.
In-depth knowledge of the Irish healthcare system, particularly secondary care and hospital procurement processes.
Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyse data, interpret market trends, and make informed business decisions.
Demonstrated leadership experience and the ability to work effectively at a senior level.
