Summary of Job:
The Irish Film Institute (IFI) is the Irish national body charged with the promotion of film culture. As part of the IFI, the Irish Film Archive is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making available Ireland’s moving image heritage. The Digital Preservation Manager leads the Digital Collections team, ensuring that digital objects in the IFI’s care remain authentic, accessible, reusable, and understandable in the future.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and oversee the ongoing preservation of the digital collections.
2. Lead the Digital Collections Team to achieve preservation goals.
3. Oversee the Archive digital network and maintain digital systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
4. Liaise with vendors, consultants, and other relevant parties to ensure system efficiency and productivity.
5. Work closely with the Head of Archive and other senior archive managers to devise and implement overall Archive policy.
6. Provide support and information for the creation of grant applications and reports.
7. Assist with identifying the Archive’s future needs in terms of funding, technological developments, storage, and access.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Demonstrable practical experience with digital preservation, particularly related to digital collections in libraries, museums, archives, or special collections.
2. Qualification in Information technology, digital curation, or a related information management discipline.
3. Excellent communication, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
4. Demonstrable experience managing and motivating staff.
5. Familiarity with infrastructure management, including equipment management and system upgrades.
6. Ability to contribute positively while being pragmatic about resource and budgetary constraints.
7. Experience in developing policy in a library or archive environment is highly desirable.
8. Experience in planning and managing projects.
9. Demonstrated ability to research and resolve problems using a variety of resources and tools.
10. Ability to communicate complex technical ideas in simple language.
11. Ability to work across multiple teams and disciplines.
