The Role:
The role of the Assistant Principal Health and Safety is to manage the Health and Safety functions within Forensic Science Ireland. The AP Health & Safety will create and implement health and safety policies in accordance with the relevant legislation and ensure that these policies are implemented appropriately by management, staff, contractors and visitors in Forensic Science Ireland. The Assistant Principal Health & Safety Manager will report to the Director of Corporate Services and will be part of the Corporate Services and Facilities team. The Facilities section has a varied remit including, but not limited to Contract management of the Facilities Management Company and ensuring essential services are maintained. All members of the Corporate Services Management Team are expected to show flexibility in their role and carry out the management tasks required in the section.
The role of Assistant Principal is a diverse one. Assistant Principals are key participants in the senior management process of FSI with a critical management role in implementing and overseeing the implementation of FSI strategy and policy.
The core objective of the role of Health and Safety Manager is to develop and secure the effective implementation of health and safety policy and to promote a positive health and safety culture in the organisation. The Assistant Principal may be required to act as representatives for FSI both in terms of interagency working across the Public Service and at a European and international level.
Essential Criteria:
1. Significant relevant experience in a safety management role and knowledge of ISO 45001 and other ISO standards.
2. Candidates must hold either:
1. A third level qualification of at least level 8 on the National Qualification Framework in Health & Safety (relevant documentary evidence must be submitted);
2. Or (B) Hold a qualification at Level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications in Science or Engineering AND a post-graduate qualification (NFQ 8 or 9) in Health & Safety (relevant documentary evidence must be submitted);
Essential Experience:
1. Significant experience at an appropriate level in Health and Safety management in a complex organisation.
2. Expert knowledge and experience of Health and Safety statutory requirements, systems and processes with a proven ability to interpret Health and Safety legislation.
3. Experience in conducting accident/incident investigations including maintaining accurate records and reports.
4. Experience in carrying out risk assessments for and making recommendations for corrective actions.
5. The ability to forward plan for health and safety developments in the organisation.
