Medical Scientist - UPMC Aut Even Location: Aut Even Hospital Job type: Permanent Overview of role: UPMC Aut Even Hospital are recruiting a Medical Scientist on a full-time, permanent bases.
The post will lead out on the Point of Care Testing (POCT) and Specimen Management Programme within the hospital ensuring best practice and compliance with standards and associated regulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and Responsibilities To lead and support the team with the management of Histology and Pathology specimens from all Clinical areas within the hospital.
To lead and support the team with the preparation and transportation of all samples for transportation in line with Hospital policy: Co-ordinate and support the team with traceability of samples distributed to the various locations.
Co-ordinate and support the team with transport of specimens.
Lead and support the team with critical indicators, distribution of results in relation to specimens sent to St. Lukes hospital are received through the IT System Health link.
Ensuring results are printed and sent to relevant departments.
Lead and support the team with co-ordination of all other results being tracked and distributed to the relevant departments.
Lead and support the team with cross referencing results and traceability.
Management of the storage of specimens with the specimen reception lab.
Duties and Responsibilities (POCT): The Post has responsibility for the Point of Care Testing Programme in accordance with best practice and compliant with ISO 15189 and ISO 22870 requirements as follows: Support staff with the appropriate training and competency programme for each type of instrument.
Support HR with maintaining training records for the staff.
Ensures that the internal quality control records are completed.
Ensures that external quality assurance material is distributed to the wards.
Ensures that the external quality assurance records are completed.
Collaborates with Hospital Pharmacist in relation to monitoring the storage and use of reagents and controls.
Monitors reagents and controls in use at testing area to confirm that they are in date.
Personnel Follow uniform policy reference General Staff must produce satisfactory documentary evidence of all training and experience claimed by them, if required to do so by the organisation.

Qualifications & Experience: BSc in Science (preferably Medical Science) Point of Care Testing (Cobas System) Specimen management including labelling, handling and transportation Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a clinical laboratory Excellent IT skills POCT device management Knowledge of The Joint Commission standards in relation to the work area Good communication and organizational skills Good attention to detail The ability to work on your own initiative and to deadlines.
