We are looking for a Technical Director to set the standard for technical work within the studio and take responsibility for developing the skill set of the programming team to suit artistic and game design goals. Possessing a robust knowledge of various game technologies, the successful candidate will also be responsible for selecting and promoting appropriate technologies for use within the studio.
What you will be doing:
1. Determine what technology is best suited for each project; understand the engine, middleware and their constraints.
2. With the Technical Leads, manage the programming process and identify the programming tasks and time estimates.
3. Ensure that each game is being built with a productive methodology and solid coding practices, technical briefs, code reviews, keeping in mind long term quality and future code sharing between projects.
4. Identify technical risks on projects and develop contingency plans to put into place with the team.
5. Interface with design and art directors to identify trends in the gaming industry and adapt to quickly implement features which are key to improving and enhancing our games.
Team Management:
1. Facilitate communication both within and across disciplines.
2. Demonstrate good leadership, charisma, enthusiasm and sense of commitment.
3. Manage the performance of the programming team staff and manage direct reports.
4. Ensure each Lead Programmer defines clear and challenging objectives for their team members.
Knowledge Sharing:
1. Propose solutions to improve the development of projects in the studio.
2. Identify and promote the application of technical best practices within the studio.
3. Facilitate and encourage the sharing of technical knowledge and code between projects.
Job Requirements:
What you should have:
1. At least 5 years of leadership experience in the games industry.
2. At least 7 years programming experience.
3. Experience of console development is an asset.
4. A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
5. A good knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices.
6. Must have shipped at least one game on console (Mandatory).
7. Minimum of 3 years working with Unity and/or Unreal engine.
8. Ideally held a technical developer role previously.
9. Exceptional management and communication skills.
