REPORTS TO: Nurse Manager/Nurse In Charge.
MAIN DUTIES: The Nursing Assistant is part of the Caring Team whose function is to attend to the personal needs of residents under the direction and supervision of the Nurse In Charge.
To help create a homely atmosphere within the home which encourages the resident to be as independent as possible.
Assist the resident with personal hygiene, ie hair, hands, finger nails} teeth, feet and shaving male residents.
Also cleaning denture pots, toothbrush holders and other miscellaneous items.
Undertaking special responsibility for designated residents.
Assist with the bathing/showering of residents in bed and in the bathroom.
Assist with choice of day clothing, encouraging residents to make their own choice.
Reporting residents condition to the Nurse In Charge.
Assisting the nurse in the prevention and care of pressure sores.
8 Assisting the nurse in moving and turning dependant residents.
Assisting residents with mobility.
Giving mouth care to residents as directed by the nurse.
Manage continence and incontinence.
Serving of beverages and snacks and feeding dependant residents.
Giving, removing and cleaning bedpans and urinals.
Also cleaning wheelchairs, commodes etc.
Bed making and changing of bed linens.
Participates in involving residents in recreational and social activities and accompanying residents, where appropriate, to locations outside the Home.
Reporting any accidents/incidents or complaints to the Nurse In Charge.
Cleaning of equipment and repotting any faults to Nurse Manager/ Nurse In Charge.
Economy in the use of foodstuffs, electricity, cleaning materials, hot water and heating.
Ensuring residents wardrobes and drawers are kept tidy.
Collection of laundry and soiled linen and removal to laundry.
Day Duty staff on duty at the weekend will be required to operate laundry machines and Night Duty staff will undertake washing and ironing duties as required.
Assisting in the orientation of new members of untrained staff.
Staff dress code must be adhered to at all times.
Staff must be bare below the elbow.
Be confident to work in all areas of the Home.
