Job Description for Technician Chemistry Department of Biological and Pharmaceutical Sciences (Kerry Campus)
### Overview
The Department of Biological & Pharmaceutical Sciences at Munster Technological University's Kerry Campus offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Pharmaceutical Science, Veterinary Bioscience, Wildlife Biology, Agricultural Science, Pharmacy Technician, and Veterinary Nursing. The department supports an active research community with circa 650 WTE students and 50 staff.
### Key Responsibilities
As a Technician in the Chemistry Department, you will contribute to the team that manages and maintains science laboratories, research laboratories, and other specialist facilities. You will work closely with academic staff and students to provide a supportive learning environment. Your duties will include:
* Delivering high-quality technical support and service to teaching and research activities across chemistry laboratories.
* Maintaining and preparing laboratory practical sessions and associated equipment/instrumentation/chemicals.
* Ensuring efficient management of laboratory records, including inventories and stock control of chemicals, laboratory apparatus/equipment, and equipment preventative maintenance.
* Managing compliance and control of chemicals, chemical hazards, chemical storage, and waste.
* Monitoring and ensuring compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations.
### Requirements
Candidates should have an Ordinary Degree (Level 7) in Science or equivalent relevant qualification. Ideal candidates will have at least one year of post-graduate experience and demonstrate knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and procedures as pertains to laboratory work in the chemistry environment. Candidates should also have good working knowledge of Information Technology, excellent communication, analytical, organisational, and team-working skills, and be able to demonstrate a flexible and versatile approach to their work.
