The Role
As a Purchasing Manager, this individual will be at the heart of overseeing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services for major construction projects. From managing suppliers to negotiating prices and ensuring everything is in line with budgets, schedules, and quality standards, this role plays a pivotal part in the seamless execution of large-scale developments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Procurement Strategy & Management: Develop and execute purchasing strategies aligned with project objectives; manage procurement of all materials, tools, and equipment required for construction projects.
2. Supplier Relationship Management: Identify and assess potential suppliers; negotiate contracts, pricing, and terms while fostering strong relationships for reliable performance.
3. Inventory & Supply Chain Management: Monitor inventory levels, coordinate deliveries, and work with site managers to ensure material availability without disruption.
4. Cost Control & Budgeting: Ensure procurement stays within the project’s budget; oversee purchase orders, invoices, and prepare regular reports on procurement costs and vendor performance.
5. Contract Management: Draft, review, and manage contracts while ensuring compliance with all regulations and project needs.
6. Risk Management: Identify procurement risks such as price fluctuations or material shortages, developing strategies to mitigate these risks.
7. Collaboration & Communication: Collaborate with construction, finance, and project management teams to ensure alignment across departments, ensuring that materials meet technical specifications.
8. Process Improvement: Continuously assess procurement processes for cost savings, efficiency, and improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Previous experience in procurement, supply chain, or buying, ideally in construction.
2. Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and suppliers.
3. Excellent negotiation and communication skills.
4. Familiarity with procurement software and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
5. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced construction environment and work under pressure.
6. A proactive, problem-solving attitude with strong attention to detail.
