Senior Azure Database Architect and Performance Engineer, Charles River Development, Officer
Who we are looking for
Charles River Development, a State Street Company, is offering the opportunity for a talented database administrator to join its Database Operations team. The database team is responsible for the design, administration, and daily operation of critical systems that support our clients' Production, Disaster Recovery, and Test environments in a cloud database environment, with a heavy emphasis on SQL Server, Azure SQL, Snowflake, and Managed Instance Databases.
We are looking for an expert SQL Server architect and database performance engineer in an Azure environment. We would prefer candidates with a combination of SQL database performance engineering, T-SQL development, automation, and administration skills where the candidate will be responsible for identifying performance bottlenecks and performing query tuning in Azure on SQL VM in IaaS and Azure SQL database. The candidate must possess strong knowledge of SQL Server database internals and database design patterns and be able to provide insightful problem-solving.
What you will be responsible for
As a Senior Azure Database Architect and Performance Engineer, you will:
* Work with the Operations team on major incidents
* Engage with Engineering on operational Readiness asks
* Ensure the availability and optimization of MSSQL 2017, 2019, 2022 in Hosted and IaaS SQL VM in Azure. Experience with Azure SQL Database and Managed Instance in Azure. Snowflake experience is a big plus!
* Monitor performance on application databases, queries and suggest/apply continuous tuning.
* Work closely with application teams and other stakeholders in identifying issues related to MSSQL.
* Follow technical standards and operational procedures to meet database performance, High Availability, replication, scalability, and security requirements in both hosted and cloud environments.
* Have expert-level experience with T-SQL, Powershell, and PowerBI.
* Monitor performance on application databases, queries and suggest/apply continuous tuning.
* Use Query Store, Extended Events, and other third-party tools to identify issues related to Database Performance.
* Tune database instances and suggest architecture-level changes.
* Conduct POCs on new solutions with Platform Engineering, ensuring all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security, and performance.
* Perform reviews on design and code frequently to ensure site standards are adhered to.
* Provide technical support to application development teams when necessary.
* Assist in resolving priority incidents to quickly eliminate impacts, participate in root-cause analysis, and support subsequent corrective and preventative actions.
* Collaborate with Database manager/senior leadership and various Application support and engineering teams to optimize database performance and reliability.
* Acquire relevant Azure certifications (e.g. DP-300, DP-900, AZ-900 Exam).
* Establish, maintain, and adhere to CRD technical standards, policies, and procedures.
* Take initiative and drive solutions, ensuring all application design and code is produced with proper integrity, security, and performance.
Education & Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in computer science (or a related technical field).
* 6-8 years of experience working with large MS SQL Server 2017, 2019, 2022 databases and Snowflake in a 24 x 7 x 365 production environment.
* Good performance tuning experience, using available tools like SolarWinds, Query Store, Extended Events, and methods to investigate and make recommendations to improve slow performing queries and procedures at the database and server level.
* 5+ years of hands-on experience operating MS SQL servers and related technologies in Azure.
* Very good understanding of database encryption, high-availability, disaster recovery, database replication, backup/restore.
* Must be detail-oriented, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be an aggressive self-starter.
* A strong sense of customer service, attention to detail, and issue ownership.
* Understanding of ITIL concepts desired.
