UtilityInnovation Group (UIG) is looking for a Network Operations Center Controls Engineer for GridSure, UIG’s remote engineering, operations, maintenance, and dispatch platform.
About the Role
The Network Operations Center (NOC) Controls Engineer will collaborate with NOC Operations and Engineering teams to design, maintain, and optimize the Network Operations Center at our global headquarters in Raleigh, NC, and support the UIGI (Dublin, Ireland) NOC. This role involves:
* Overseeing the dispatch of load management assets across UIG’s fleet
* Coordinating with customers during events and alarm conditions
* Supporting the integration of GridSure, UIG’s advanced control and analysis platform
Key Responsibilities
* Disaster Event Response: Manage disaster preparation efforts and active event asset management
* Dispatch & Monitoring: Manage remote dispatch of UIG load management assets, ensuring real-time monitoring and timely execution
* NOC Optimization: Maintain and enhance the UIG NOC, aligning with Systems Engineering directives and summarizing operational data
* Programming & Integration: Develop GridSure integration solutions, program control/communication devices, and configure field devices
* Testing & Troubleshooting: Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), verifying system integrity and resolving issues
* Project Execution & Collaboration: Work with engineering teams to bring UIG equipment from concept to production, ensuring project milestones are met and supporting technical documentation
* Global Support: Work with UIGI on coordination support of U.S. and EU assets.
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field
* 1-5 years of experience in automation systems and SCADA integration
* Experience with MES/SCADA, PLCs, and industrial networks
* Proficiency in Inductive Automation’s Ignition Platform (Perspective module preferred)
* Experience with SQL databases and industrial protocols (Modbus, Profinet/Profibus, CANopen, J1939, EtherCAT, MQTT)
* Hands-on experience with TIA Portal; willingness to learn CODESYS
* Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
* Ability to collaborate across teams and effectively communicate technical concepts.
* Ability to work from Raleigh, NC HQ as needed
* Ability to travel up to 25% annually.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
* Experience with Modscan, Wireshark, NMap, or similar communication software
* Proficiency in Java programming and PLC programming tools (Structured Text, Ladder Logic, TIA Portal, CODESYS)
* Experience with Crimson 3, Proficy, and protective relaying applications
* Understanding of industrial automation software and electrical drafting standards
Physical & Work Requirements
* Ability to inspect in-process work, including positioning oneself at various heights and angles
* Occasional lifting/moving of equipment (up to 40 lbs.)
* Manual dexterity for operating digital equipment and controllers
* Occasional exposure to electrical testing environments and industrial processes
* Occasional after-hours event support as needed
