Position Description This is an opportunity to work as part of a leading-edge team in Ireland's Ardnacrusha hydropower generating station and on the Shannon Scheme.
We have been generating electricity on the Shannon since 1929. The station team plays a pivotal role in ensuring Ardnacrusha's safety, commercial and technical performance is optimised.
ESB Ardnacrusha Station has 3 Francis turbines and 1 Kaplan Type Turbine, 4 generators (G- G4: rated at 21MW, 22MW, 19MW and 24MW respectively) and responsibility for all the associated dams, weirs, gates, and civil structures associated with the Shannon hydroelectric scheme.
The Hydro Team Member
* Safety Services Officer will work as part of the Hydro team based in the station.
The SSO's role is to support local management and staff to achieve their overall safety objectives and to ensure safety performance targets are achieved.
The Safety Services Officeris responsible for driving safety improvement, this includes, monitoring safety trends, driving safety initiatives, measuring, and reporting on progress of safety targets, completing investigations and reports, engaging with staff and managers on safety related matters.
The Safety Services Officeris also involved in supporting the development and upskilling of staff in technical and safety competencies to perform their tasks.
The successful candidate will also be able to communicate and relate effectively with staff at all levels in the Organisation.
As a member of the station team, the Hydro Team Member
* Safety Services Officer will be required to work across all functional areas including maintenance, operations, technical services, facilities, civil and dam safety, supervision, and contractor management.
The successful candidate will be required to work to the level of their competence to carry out their duties. They will provide support to other teams and projects. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others is required. The successful candidate will give and receive training as defined by plant management to attain and maintain competencies.
Key Responsibilities Responsibilities will cover the items below:
Safety Services Officer role and maintain/manage Station ISO accreditation.
Site and job safety walk downs Delivering and supporting of work across all areas of the station, including maintenance, operations, civil, technical and support functions.
Co-ordinate safety improvement plans & emergency plans. Co-ordinate the local safety committee and support the Safe & Sound Local Leadership Team. Report safety incidents per safety policy's & procedures. Complete safety investigations as assigned. Complete safety audits per audit schedules and feedback audit performance to staff and report on audit performance. Support and coach team members on safety performance. Complete safety inductions & maintain Initiafy induction system as required. Compile and review risk assessments, method statements and safety procedures. Organise training as required. Use appropriate IT systems to assist in the management of day-to-day activities. Management of Plant SI299. Ownership of a number of key annual station service contracts/projects. Local Projects as directed by the Plant Manager or Supervising Engineer.
Experience and Qualifications Essential The successful candidate must meet the following criteria:
Minimum of 3 years relevant experience Either 3rd Level qualification e.g. Certificate in Safety & Health at Work CertSHWW (NFQ Level 7) or equivalent work experience is required. A relevant Health & Safety professional qualification Excellent communication skills. Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (ISO45001)
Ability to work to tight deadline, achieve challenging targets and self-motivated. High standard of computer skills required. Be capable of working as part of a flexible team. Hold a full valid driving licence. Strong safety auditing skills Desirable Experience of generation safety rules. Good knowledge of Irish safety, health & welfare legislation, codes of practice and standards Use of SHIELD. Location Ardnacrusha Generating Station, Castlebanks, Co. Clare, V94 VR0K.
